Aww Red you got another Delaware? I missed that. Good for you, hope she is sweet I was hoping you would get another one someday.

You would have loved my BBW tom, then, Standing up with his neck stretched up for food, he could just about reach chest level on me. And I'm 5'5"! He is currently camping out at my BF's house and keeping him company. Freezer camp has been somewhat delayed for him.


I am going to keep this in mind

Turkeys are more expensive than chickens, but they really are a lot of fun to raise. Not to mention beautiful, and they make tasty eggs

I know! Baby turkeys are also suuuper adorable!! I bred turkeys (black spanish, narragansett, eastern wild, and sweetgrass) for 3 years, but my dad just sold the last pair we had ( eastern wilds) to the Willow Park Zoo up here in Logan. I really want to get back into them. Hopefully, I can find more sweetgrass turkeys! They are the sweetest turkeys and are sooo pretty!

She is the friend for the BSL that was supposed to keep my last Icee company. They are both such cute, sweet chicks - thank goodness. I think I'd be upset if I got a mean chick, after everything that's been going on. I named her Amy (I liked the name

) She is a curious little ball of fuzz.

I know! Baby turkeys are also suuuper adorable!! I bred turkeys (black spanish, narragansett, eastern wild, and sweetgrass) for 3 years, but my dad just sold the last pair we had ( eastern wilds) to the Willow Park Zoo up here in Logan. I really want to get back into them. Hopefully, I can find more sweetgrass turkeys! They are the sweetest turkeys and are sooo pretty!

I love seeing the different colorations on turkeys, anymore. I am also partial to the blue slate varieties. Those sweetgrass ones are very pretty, too. I think that the BBW's are my least favorite, funny enough. I decided that I really like the hens a lot, though.

Forgot to mention - my black Wyandotte pullet has gone broody now, too. The turkey took the nest mound, the Wyandotte took the coop. My poor flock got booted out of their two favorite spots to lay! I don't know what I should do with the Wyandotte, though. Or the turkey. As cute as they are, I so do not need any more chicks right now

I have to admit reading all of Red's turkey adventures has softened me on the concept of owning turkeys.


We bought old fashioned rat traps and poison. So far, we've caught 3 rats in 24 hours. And, in 48 hours, ALL of the poison from one of our stations is gone. Yay!

I will be trying for hatching eggs in a few weeks... Buff Brahmas, parents are from Ideal Poultry. However, it's my first time and besides that I don't know how fertile my hens are. ^^' But, I will be breeding them. Nevertheless, I am extremely excited. If all goes well, I will keep my babies at Wheeler for another year to try again. ^^ All my previous Brahmas have gone broody, but in this case, that's what I want. If I get a broody hen, she's hatching chicks XP Well, maybe... Still gotta think on that one... Somehow I see problems arising.

I love my Delaware. I was surprised with her, she trusted me from the moment I took her home. Not sure how unusual that seems, but it's definitely a first for me.

Now, off to bed for me. Got school tomorrow~

I love the colorations too! One time I hatched out a sweetgrass/black spanish? cross and it came out blue! I kept it for awhile, and it turned out to be a tom. I wanted to use that tom to make different colorings, but a dog got to him. :/

I have a black OE chick out there that is the same age as my Amy..the Icelandic chick I hatched from your eggs. She is so pretty. I should get more photos. I had sold the older blue hen a couple of weeks ago. DH is out looking at the flock, and says, so, we don't have any blue hens now? Then he spots my one and only blue out there that is getting close to laying and says, oh!..there's one...with a smile on his face. So, I take it he likes blues. Wait until he sees Amy out and about in the yard, I can just hear him now. She really does have some pretty markings with the browns and blue.

Pan, you are going to hatch? You will love it. Babies are so much fun!

So Kam, you are a turkey lover too? I think they make the cutest little babies. They have a different little whistle sound. I hatched some that a guy brought by for me to hatch, then I gave them to him because I can't have them. And, it's funny, because their tummies are so big with all that big ol yolk in them, they can't sit upright all the time, they fall on their backs often in the beginning and can't get up. I remember having to go in to screaming babies to help them turn over. Cute little stinks.

Yes, I am very much a turkey lover Their dorkiness is soo cute to me! When I would first hatch some, I had to put in chicken chicks to teach them how to eat. If I didn't, they wouldn't have known how to! Haha not very smart, but adorable.

Lisa..is your Japanese getting a red looking comb? I thought .. oh no. Then I thought, oh wait. This little one is a lot older than it looks. Could she be getting red now? If it's a she? I see red wattles too, not real big, but red. :/ I hope it's just because of the age.
