Utah!

Go Chucky! I may need to borrow Chucky if that Coopers shows up around here again!

Here are pictures of the cute NN's I got from this last hatch. Can't remember if I posted them already, but these are more recent from when they hatched.

I have a white older one, that is really looking like a boy. If any one is interested in the
possibility of a NN roo. :)
What a cutie :D

Did you see the Silver Spangled Hamburg on KSL earlier today? I had to fight back the urge, still fighting with it.

After i posted the ad about the Golden Hamburgs, i was talking to my brother and he knows a guy that breeds the Silvers. I was originally set on the Goldens, but i wouldn't mind the silvers either. So anyway i posted that ad to see if anyone else wanted any to make the trip worth it. I only wanted about 2.

I have a silver spangled hamburg. She's a fantastic layer, even though I got her at over two years old. She's also my escape artist. A great chicken though, and I'm thrilled with her.

Silly, when I put my babies outside, I have a "time out corner" in the coop. It's blocked off by chicken wire so the other birds can't get in, but they can see the chicks. I have a light in there for the first bit. Eventually, I set them free, but make sure there's places for the babies to hide. I got Sundance's broody and chicks from her around April 22. I just released them to general population last night. The primary reason I waited so long was I wanted the babies to be big enough to 1- not escape through the chain link and 2- be a little less vulnerable to the other chickens.

Last night, I attempted to move my broody hen because her nest box is 3' off the ground. She seemed unsettled, but eventually sat back down on her eggs. This mornin g I went outside, and she was wandering around, and eggs didn't even feel warm. I hurried them into the incubator. After they were warmed up, I candled. Saw movement in one of the legbar eggs. The rest seemed iffy. Supposed to hatch tonight or tomorrow. I stuck her back with the other chickens and she went right back to that nest box. Silly bird. I guess I'll see if these guys hatch. If so, I'll put her back in the leper colony with the babies. If not, I'll try to break her. The five eggs I have are: 2 fbcm, 2 legbar, and one 1/4lav am, 1/4 fbcm and 1/2 legbar (offspring of the broody).

What a cutie :D

Didn't mention, she came from a blue egg..she will lay blue eggs..more than likely. :) She is the one with the little bit of puff to her cheeks. Camera isn't showing it.

My Japanese Bantam is being a little stink! She was so sweet. What happened? She is "the" boss! If she would just push at the others, that would be great, but she is not just pushing, she's pecking hard..getting a few feathers while at it. My little Serama is still sweet. In there with her..I see her staying away from the Japanese. I'm like Lisa..can't keep those little stinkers around. I like a happy friendly flock. She is not being nice. :/

Anyone up for a Japanese Bantam, that could change in a different environment?

Brian..you still want that Australorp? She is fine. None of those chicks got sick. Yaay, and whew. My husband tells me I worry too much. But, I had to be careful, and they all got a good dose of Denagard just in case. Doesn't hurt them. They are just dosed a little sooner than what I planned. Still looking girly to me, and no trying to crow yet, which I think it would have if it's a boy. She is sweet.

Here's a picture of my stinker of a Japanese..Birchen in color. She is so pretty, wish she would be nice.

These were taken a couple of weeks ago.

Do you put her in with full sized chickens? I think i'd want to raise them from chicks, because of their tendency to be flighty.

What a stinker! I hope they do hatch for you, because I wanted one more FBCM, I love my little one I have now.

I do have the babies right now in their own run with a smaller coop, in the middle of the free range, so everyone has seen each other for a week or so now. And the big girls do, during the day, lay right up against the grow out pen fence, and the babies usually lay right in the same side on the other side of the fence. I will have to get a photo, its cute. I just don't want to leave them outside in the grow out coop since I don't have an apron. And this morning there was a big hole, all the way down to the 18 inch in the ground apron, and then it stopped. I think I might have to get some type of a trap. I know its not my dog either, its on the other side of the fence to were my dogs are not. Its not a neighbor dog either, because we have that area shut up with a gate. So it has to be a coon, I do live right along the American Fork Canyon/Mountain. I did see a squirrel this morning in my huge pine tree, could it be a squirrel doing all that digging?

I could put together a chicken wire fence thing in the coop, and just cut the coop in half, and put the babies the one side, and then take them back out the grow out pen during the day. Do you think that would be better, or just keep bringing them inside at night. They got so mad last night, and this morning, they all flew out of the brooder so fast when I opened it up, and 3 actually went right into the box, like hurry up Mom.

Sphinx, how big are the eggs? I have read they are bantam size, but bantam size is really small. Are they closer to a Silkie/small egg. Two Silkie eggs = 1 jumbo. 3 to 4 bantam equal 1 jumbo, at least with my crew.

Wow, I've had quite a week! Today was hard and I am finally home. My grandmother passed away and the funeral was today. After her funeral, I ran straight to my stepdaughter's graduation. My hubby's babies are growing up, and mine aren't far behind. I haven't read all the posts since yesterday, but wanted to say hi :)

sorry to here about your grama..

My hamburg is probably the smallest of my large fowl chickens, but she's easily twice the size of my bantam frizzles. I think she's considered large fowl. Her egg is a small or so. I can't tell the difference between her egg and my polish (who is also large fowl). My hamburg's eggs average around 45 grams each. My frizzled bantam is around 30 grams.

Lilwanis, I'm sorry about your grandma. Congrats on your stepdaughter's graduation.

Tonight I reinforced the time out corner of my big coop in preparation to move my legbar babies outside. I'm going to have them outside with a light for heat.
