Utah!

Hey all! I am just getting back from vacation and am way behind.

Sundance, are you still wanting a frizzled roo from your blue eggs? I was just informed that the one that I hatched is crowing. He was given as a pet layer, so they would like to see him go to a home instead of stew pot.

Oops, spoke too soon...it is the smooth one

I have made my own fondant....it is so/so...but I really like for convenience the fondant I get here at Kitchen Kneads. I have only done a half dozen or so in fondant, not too many...buying th fondant made it a little more appealing haha :) I also do just the frosting, I am actually more comfortable working in icing/frosting...but I really like the way the fondant looks. I wish I could do the figurines like yours! I need more practice. I used styro dummy rounds for the two bottom layers for the last cake I made for my daughter's wedding, they only wanted the topper to save, and we bought sheet cake for the guests, so I totally cheated lol but MAN it was pretty and so straight lol ! It was solid white with baby blue flowers and black ribbon with white polka dots and white, baby blue flowers and white tulle bows on top, really cute. Had the little white pearl candy dots all over it with a diamond cut pattern in the icing. But I totally cheated on that one lol! Nobody knew but me and my daughter ;) I am saving your picture to my files for inspiration! It turned out so adorable!
That sounds awesome! I kinda want to do something like that just to practice with then if we get a cake order we won't be completely lost. Also thats very flattering :) thank you :D
Sara, that cake is absolutely awesome. Nice job! Nope, I have not yet figured out what happened with my disappearing eggs

What's more is that last night, I checked the sole remaining egg under my broody. It had been alive and well two days ago. Last night, I could see that it was full of developing chick...........but there was no movement. I am hoping and praying that the little one makes it. I will be so incredibly upset if it was killed during whatever happened out there, as that was the best egg that I had.
Thank you very much :) your little ice chick is just soooo cute! Do you think the oyher chickens would have eaten the missing eggs?
Sara, really cute cake! Did you buy or make your fondant?

Lisa, when you made yours, was it the marshmallow fondant recipe? That's what I make. I don't really like to eat it much, but I've noticed most people do eat it when I make a cake with it.

Poorpitifulbear, that is really interesting that you came across a native american. Did the archeologist find anything else?

Sundance, I want to hear about your ghost tour? Was it worth the money? Have any haunting experiences?

No, I've had too many bad experiences with making fondant. I just can't quite get it right and it cracks badly. I usually use Wilton's fondant that's what the figures are made out of but I ran out and had to go get more. Well our Walmart was also out of the wilton's so I had to try Duff's buttercream fondant. It actially worked out very well. It was very pliable and fit to the cake so easily I think I'll use it again. I didn't like it to make figures out of thoug, it was way too soft to sculpt anything with. I'm betting the eggs aren't coming because if the heat also. Stinking humidity, makes things more unbearable. Lilwanis how was your vacation?

The rains are crazy.  Guess we are in monsoon season.  Its cute to watch the chicks run for cover the minute a drop starts to fall.  Last night I went on a ghost tour and took my grandson for his 15th birthday.  it was pretty corney but he loved it.  my eggs from Mad Chicken are due to hatch next Friday.  I haven't candled them or anything.  Its going to be completely natural.  Red, did you find out what happened to your eggs?

Oooh ghost hunting! So fun! When I was about 12 I saw a "ghost" walk through a wall in my friends backyard. No joke. I actually thought it was her little brother at first and said "David what are you trying to do? Scare......" (me) but he disappeared before i finished my question.

lisa i bet its the heat. or maybe there is a stash of eggs somewhere that you do not know about? i say you decorate your coop and run with kfc buckets, it would give them a hint lol. hey red we gotta figure out a time for you to come get a mint start if you still want some. been busy as of late as i was helping my sis and her husband find a house, moving them and then in the last week two of my sisters each had baby boys :D then i also had a very tricky sprinkler repair job that took up a lot of time.

Congratulations on your new nephews! What are their names?

Birdman--I totally agree on having a stash of ammo, it is a big deal around here :) We do have some, but he likes to buy a box a week and has not been able to for a long long time...so it was really hard not to pick some up today! I could not believe they had it, it has been months since they have, and CAL has a line out the front of the store on the days they get it in here. Looks like it is slowly starting to show up again..will definitely have to stock up some more, just gotta get through the next two weeks. First our daughter graduated, now turns 18 in two weeks, and starting college. Lots of expenses, and a few of my preschoolers moved and dropped out of preschool so I have to get a few more enrolled. When it rains it pours! My DH delivers Pizza at night so he has been taking extra shifts. Sooooo hopefully we can fit ammo in our budget in a couple more weeks :p Gotta love that budget :/:/:/

Christina, Red, looks like you are suffering the same egg deficit....I am thinking that KFC bucket sitting in the run is really a great idea lol I might get desperate enough to try it this week. Fortunately I have a few due to start laying, my GSL's were born 3/1, and BR too....quite a few looking a little antsy out there so maybe I will get some new eggs and it will make the older gals jealous ! They better get moving !

i totally understand the money issue. i have not been able to buy as much as i would like lately, my chicken run kinda sucked me dry. as far as finding it i guess i have a bit of a advantage with a lot more stores selling it down here. still .22 ammo is as rare as hens teeth so to speak. but yeah gotta have the money to get it :) i also have a deep urge to buy silver but do not have the money for that ether right now. i hope your dh hits lots of heavy tippers, you all deserve it. you would be such a fun preschool teacher, i bet you will fill those spots so fast :)

Awww thanks! I hope it all settles out soon. My business fluctuates alot, so it is nice that he can work the extra shifts when we need them. Yes, the chickens took a big chunk for us this year too lol! The new runs are so nice though, I am glad we got it done.

Sundance--Gunshow? Do they have one regularly or is it just an annual one? Still trying to decide if my frizz is a boy or girl. Definitely will let you know and get it to you if it is a boy. I am leaning towards girl for sure, but you never know! It's skin is really black so it is hard to tell about the comb being red....and it is a little wider but it is staying really small.
