Brian, I've been good, thanks Looks like your BR boy is going to be tall! I had a cockerel a couple of years ago and I just loved him. I could carry him around like a puppy. He went to a home with little kids and the rooster pictures above is one of my Icelandic boys, Sven.

RJ, I'm beside myself about what to do so far as hatching. DH insists on getting a better bator, but I'm really having a hard time with spending that much right now. However, none of my girls have yet decided to go broody, and if I am to breed these, then I need a reliable incubator. And I want chickies so bad! If I can get some to hatch out this spring, maybe we can work something out for you? Desert Springs also has them. She got her stock from me Shawn (TheBirdGuy) also keeps them. I got some of my birds from him.

the one I got I think is gorgeous. I love the champagne coloring throughout his body.I have a black showgirl that I'm 86% sure it's a female. I'd love to breed the paint to the showgir.

I'm trying my hand at breeding chickens of my own this year. It's been tough for me to find chick's or eggs so I will try it this year. I'm not allowed roosters but my neighbors don't care if I have them so maybe I should lol. I really want to find a salmon faverolle rooster for my breeder. I just love them so much. I've got a barred rock maran mix rooster now but I'm more interested in a more colorful rooster. Now I just got to find them

I couldnt tell if you knew it was me at first lol. Im so glad you guys love him. I'll definitely let you know when more become available. I hope to get better luck on this next batch. Paints are definitely my new top favorite

I have a Brinsea EcoGlow i am selling. I got it last wednesday. My chicks wouldnt go near it, so im back to heat lamps. If youd like it id let it go for $75. Says its good for up to 20 chicks.

Brian, thanks for the kind words on the little Banty, I like these little ones. Is your rooster shown a few posts back a Barred Rock, or something different? I am a sucker for a black and white pattern it would seem. He does as Red noted seem to be quite tall. Beautiful regardless…

SO, I am thinking up a storm here regarding a petty much permanent brooder setup. It looks like I may have chicks 'pop up' from time to time and my methodical method employed last season, most likely won't as well this year. When I got my two shipments of Banty birds for close to sixty birds, I just did them in a big batch, same with my LF, I did them mostly together. But I can see that I might be able to 'use' a multi level stack of brooders for when fortune smiles upon me, which seldom happens, but at times it does. So I am looking for suggestions in what you would want in your dream brooder setup. The three big sheets of OSB I used for the Banty's on the floor is over kill for my needs going forward, I think.

It can be four to five feet long, perhaps 32 inches wide and as tall as seems good or it takes to make it work. Would you hardwire in a light socket in each 'row' or use two. It will be out in my old granary, which I currently use as my wood shop, there is a wall that has the room, I could go as high as eight feet in height. What is important to you, what do you wish for while brooding? Does anyone use them for broody hens when not in use, would or could such an arrangement work out? I have looked through many of the brooders here on BYC, but have not found anything that seems to fill the bill, or spark my creative instincts. I'll look again on Google images, but thought I would pose the question here, to see what thoughts or suggestions the kind folks may have.

I was told that he is a barred rock/cuckoo maran mix but I'm not really sure. He is pretty.

To me, the best feature of a brooder is if one side can drop down or open up to the side so you can sweep out or scrape out the old shavings into a waste container rather than 'lift' them out of a four sided box. So if one side had a hinge and could drop open down or to the side, that would be amazing. And some sort of automatic watering system that can be raised with chick height is nice so as not to be constantly emptying out waterers full of shavings. Whether it be the containers with chicken nipples or some other device. I use rabbit waterers that can be raised or lowered with a small catch tray underneath to catch if it drips. Or in one of my brooders, there are feed/water cups that hang on the cage door that can be raised up and down. It will be fun to see what you come up with, can't wait to see pics!

haha yes I did he is so pretty. I need to find rooster collars for a large fowl and one big enough for a silkie rooster. I hope your hatching goes better then planned just keep me posted on how your hatches go.
I think he is going to be tall as well. He's 15 weeks old and towers over my other chick's that are older then he is lol. I can't wait to see what he fills out like.

Roundy, we got our light brahma from IFA. Maybe check there? Ours is a healthy sassy lil thing. She's the only chick we haven't really attached to though. Kind of an indifferent attitude towards us compared to our other love bugs.
