Utah!

hey hatching friends.... I've had my incubator setup for the last couple of days... and I can't get the humidity to change (still air, little giant styrofoam with egg turner, no eggs placed in yet (thank goodness)). I decided maybe I should move it locations today... well, I felt the water in the wells, and they were chilly to say the least.... (my thermometer was at 102) I don't think the humidity got above 30%.... I also noticed when I moved it, that the water was leaking out of the holes I didn't notice before... (sloshed it a little when I moved it)... I set it on a towel, thinking maybe that would help keep the temp in at the bottom..... Is it okay that I covered up those holes at the bottom with the towel?

edit: also... is this a bad idea to offer to do a classroom hatch (the last 3 days, which means I'll be moving it to the school for lockdown) when this is my very first time ever doing a hatch, and really don't have a clue as to what I am doing???

He is so cute! Where did you get the Orloffs?

The little mix is adorable too, love the headdress :D

Brian you should go to chickenstock then! I don't think very many UT peeps are going. Grey Bird Farms said she might...then Upick and myself...that is all I know of. IT is at the warehouse at CAL Ranch this year and it is expected to be a pretty big affair they have been advertising. I have to make a quick trip, we have a family party that night so I can only go the first couple hours.
I think it would be great to see you all there:) I have always wanted to do something like that so I'm going to do it this year.

Red, thanks for the info! Those little babies are too cute.

Le Casa, I knew that. ha ha ha I wasn't thinking of the austrawhite, because my leghorn is a brown leghorn. She is just an excellent forager, and lays HUGE eggs. She's probably my favorite, after my mother hens. Would you still be interested in that crossing? I could probably hatch you one or two. Let me know.
When I said, I knew that, what I meant is, "I knew that. Why did I have to ask??" Just for clarification. Sometimes I sound like a rude sass, when I don't actually mean to be. Ha ha ha

Ok so we have to find each other and say hi. I will have a brooder set up by the free chicks he is giving to the 4h kids. I bought some BYC badges for us to wear but they have not arrived yet, hope they get here in time! I will only be there til 12:30 or so, I have to get back.
(If you want to buy chicks get there early/when they open they go fast!)

Photo overload. Had fun taking photos today since I had the camera out for my barred rock going up for sale.

My black SG and my tiny tot partridge, that Lisa says looks like a Morehead..she does!

She still has a lot of pin feathers coming in on her head. A lot!

Had to show the fluffy butt.

Here is my darling little white bantam cochin. She is going to be beautiful!

There's my splash Marans at the right, and an EE with it's head stuck out there. The Marans
is one that I hatched from the winning eggs. And, he shows his eggs in GA. Hope this is
a girl and lays me eggs like his!

The cochin, the EE, and there is the blue Marans that hatched from my winning eggs.

Please tell me that Marans start growing their combs big, early on.

Is there anything we have to do to get a 4H chick for my daughter? What should we bring with if we end up bringing a few chicks home?
