Utah!

Not really. We'll probably go down to IFA and do a special order, see what they have. I think I want a Barred Rock and a Cochin but those are the only ones we've decided on at this point. Open to suggestions!

Also does anyone want a drake? We have this drake that we actually got as a duckling from Hector last June. He's a super awesome Black Swedish but he's in the same run as our chickens and love is in the air! I though having to female ducks would satiate his appetite but it looks like he thinks all birds are fair game. He's not aggressive, very pretty, I just can't keep him in a separate area due to space. Free for anyone who wants him!
Looking for cochins ey? I just hatched these yesterday.
A few of my Aracaunas too..can't see the tufts unless I hold them up..so will post of one face on....well side face..
You can see the tuft behind the ear area, different from the Ameraucanas..they are puffy right along the side of the face.

briason84 - So happy you found a broody hen! Let me know when you give her eggs to hatch. We can do this thing together. I could use some help. :)

I was able to get some silkie eggs but won't get them until Tuesday. I have been trying to read as much as I can on how to help my little broody hen. She isn't laying on anything right now and only gets up once or twice a day to eat and drink. Then goes right back in and lays down. I'm so worried how this is all going to work out that I bought a incubator just in case.(early Mother's Day gift!)

Would love any help you could give to me as this is a new experience. I'm very excited!

Thanks for the Congrats everyone! Had a nice Steak lunch at Outback.

auntie..I have a broody right now. She doesn't get off much now either. She was in the beginning, but I see her off less and less. They do get thin and pretty sad looking while they take care of the eggs. Then fatten up after they hatch. But your mommy doesn't have any eggs..go back a few pages..Lisa posted a great post on how her broody hen goes broody, then off for a while, then on. And how she looks during.

I was just going to post, that I have someone wanting the cochins that I have there, not sure how many she wants. But, I have a lot more in the bator.
I have someone that wants a couple of the Araucanas..so that leaves a few. They are cute..I have more of those coming..and I have some Silkies that will hatch in a couple of weeks, and people really want them, so I have more eggs on the way. I have Wheaten Ameraucanas on the way, a lady that has to get her flock down because her husband just had heart surgery..she is the one I am getting the Araucanas from, the same as these here.
Anyone else interested in Araucanas..or Wheaton's. I have been wanting the wheatens, been waiting for a time I could get them. Blue eggs so they say!
My blue, black, and splash are going to hatch soon...this month. The eggs from those are really pretty.
I am going to have so many chicks..my McMurry replacement is coming next week! White Orpintons, Speckeled Sussex, rose comb brown leghorn, Silver Laced Wyondotte, and New Hampshires. I don't count my chicks before I get them, any more than when I hatch when getting chicks from a hatchery. We'll see what happens this time. My speckled sussex that made it from the first shipment, is soo sweet, and my husband loves her. Yes, he actually said he loves..well, he said he loved her coloring. lol... I knew love was in there somewhere about her, from my husband! He makes more and more comments on my chickens. And I, love that! lol
The cutest thing lately, when he gets the flashlight out to see if there are any pips when it's time. Then, he's counting how many I have, and comes to tell me when I have another one if I haven't been in the room to check lately.

Cynthia12 - Those chicks are the cutest! I just went and check Boo (my Broody) and she has collected 2 eggs that aren't fertile and she is laying on them. Thanks I will go back and read those
posts.

Darn, I really wanted to buy a cochin and an araucana. :( It's ok. When do you want to come get your money for the Partridge :) How much was it again?

Cynthia--those are so cute, especially the little puffy-faces! I have about a dozen BLRW's going into lockdown tomorrow and I know exactly how it feels to whip that flashlight out every five minutes to check for pips.

Of the ones I hatched last weekend, four have already gone off to their new home and the other four are leaving in the morning when I get off from work here. My son is a little irked at me for letting the Austrolorps go, but I think he'll forgive me once this new batch hatch out.

I candled the first set of Cream Legbars yesterday--three out of six look like they are developing. I'll take a look at the second set tomorrow before I put the incubator on lockdown. Hopefully, they will look good!

The third set of six are coming later this week.

Oh Cynthia---the chicks are gorgeous. Glad those Araucana eggs did well!

I have sad sad news. We were out all day making the bigger coop. My little bantam, the crazy broody I love and always talk about.....my dog got her. I cried ....and cried.....I was sooooo mad at him. He has been out in the yard with the chickens for weeks, and has really been leaving them alone, we still do not trust him and have been watching him close.....my son put a microwave pizza in the microwave with the plastic on, started smoking, and caught on fire in the microwave, I came running in the house to get it out, he was hollering, got all the windows open to let the smoke out. Went back outside and my dog had the bantam in his mouth and took off running. She was gone when we got to him. Her little body was totally limp and her eyes were shut...no wounds I could see so I think he just flapped her around and her neck broke. Isn't that the saddest thing! I just ran in the house, panicking over the smoke. I did not stop to think about the dog being out there with us, sneaky thing just seized the opportunity I guess. I feel like the WORST chicken mom ever, I have been so sad today :( She was going to sit on the first few eggs I get from the Wyandottes I am picking up in the morning (they are with a roo)...and finally try to be a 'mom'. Poor thing never got the chance. Sheesh I am bawling again, this is going to be tough to get over!! Sad day at my house. :( :(
