she is acting fine, i found her hidden behind the straw bales in the run. her in the little orp are now in their own cage. she is acting fine but the wound does not look so good. i cant wrap it so i put some cream on it and am watching her close. things were going so well. i now feel like a idiot. please send good thoughts and prayers if you would

Oh no! Poor thing. At least you have her away from the big girls now. Just keep an eye on her, I wouldn't be surprised if she pulls through with some TLC.

If it makes you feel better at all, I was feeling low last week because the new little GLW I'd gotten was getting pecked by one of the other chicks - a LOT. I poked the offender in the neck a couple of times and even grabbed her and cuddled her once or twice, but I didn't need to worry. As it turns out, my Welsummer decided she's had it with the BSL (the offender) and started picking on her whenever she got out of line. Plus, the GLW has taken to randomly pulling a kamikaze into the rest of the girls when she wants to snuggle in the group

Let us know how you SPR does!

it was neosporin. i feel so bad :( i should of known better

My guess is she'll be fine. Now that you have her separated. Just give her some more grow time, then try again. She's eating and drinking right?

They are tough little things. I read on the hatch a long where a huge hawk got in a killed some of the ladies chickens, but one got ripped up. She got out the needle and thread! Sewed it up, and now, that bird is doing great. She put her back in with the other chickens. I think if you keep it clean, and put the neo on it after, it should heal from the inside out. Probably fast than you think.
Yep, you learned a lesson..but there I was thinking..that's great, they are fitting right in. I didn't think anything would happen either.
Keep us updated for sure! Glad she has the Orpington with her.

she is acting normal, eating and drinking. i hope she heals. the orp is one of the friendliest chickens i have ever seen. she is so sweet. and thee pencil is a very sweet girl too

So sad to hear about that! My little FeeBee got beat up, I was amazed how fast she scabbed over and again how fast the scab fell off and she looked fine. If you put some sticks in a corner of your run or a board up, they can run and hide and that helped a lot with mine. Obstacles to slow down the pursuers, the little ones figure out how to dodge in and out quickly....

Cynthia...Shirley is squatting! Will be finding out soon what color. Exciting !

Does anybody want a male duckling? I got two at CAL Ranch on Sunday and only really want one. They are males because I watched a video on how to properly, and safely vent sex them. jwoo, Guess what? I candled the 4 duck eggs you gave me, and all 4 are fertile! I can see a little embryo in each egg except for one egg, it doesn't have one embryo, it has two! I'm worried because twins don't usually turn out well, but if they turn out OK I will be so happy!

Twins! How awesome would that be? I hope they make it!

4 out of 7 of my remaining eggs sguiggling. The other three look still. But they are about the same size embryo as the moving ones so I am hoping. Are they usually moving or is it normal for them to be relatively still? The 5 day later eggs are developing nicely too. Should have kept eggs for a few more days, did not think they would be fertile that long, it is amazing that they all were after 10 days with no rooster!

I have had twin chickens hatch a few years ago, the egg wasn't mine though, I had a broody hatch it for somebody from church that didn't have an incubator. It would be so cool to find that lady and see the twins :)

Oh my goodness, Brad! I am so sorry they tricked you and started picking on the penciled. I bet she'll be ok- you're a great chicken dad. The thing is, they can turn on each other with no warning- I remember a couple years ago, my hens turned on my poor white leghorn. She had quite a few wounds, and I had to separate her out until she healed. She'd been with the other chicks since she was a week or two old, and they were a year old by that time. So, there's no predicting. You can't blame yourself.

Red, I would prefer edibles- I love flowers but I hate weeding, so I tend to neglect my flower beds and just put weed barrier in my garden. I could change my mind for the right flower though.

Yes birdman you are a great chicken dad! Do not blame yourself :( I am so glad you found her when you did so you could take care of her and help her. That is what makes you a good chicken dad, she is probably sooo relieved you spotted the problem when you did! And will give you a nice fat egg when her time comes and she can reward you :)
