Donna----I got new thermometers for my hatching incubator----yes the other digital one was way too cool so that is likely the culprit of those chicks not hatching.I am glad I got new ones! I think it worked fine up until recently---it matched my backup thermometer before but this last week was about 5 degrees off for some reason so I did not know which one was wrong . I checked the temp on both sides of my still air for hatching and they are fine, it was my thermometer that was messed up. Sooooooo hopefully better luck this week. Poor chickies were freezing! Sheesh! I have like 6 thermometers in both bators now. Looks ridiculous. And the plug is duct taped to the wall. Two things I have learned. I am sure there will be soooo many more.![]()

Lisa, you don't leave your plug open? If I have two plugs, I leave one open all the time, then open the other for lock down, don't wait for a pip. They have found, that the eggs breath better, the chicks come along better with some air. In fact, a lot of folks just throw their plugs away, never use them. But like I said, I do use one in the double plugged ones. If I have only one in the bator I'm using, I leave it open all the time. You just have to adjust the temp where it will stay up with them open. Humidity, I stay around low/mid 40's for the room they are in, then only up to 65/66 for lock down. That's me, with the wonderful hatch I just went through, but, I didn't tell you guys that I put them in lock down in my still bator..hmmm, not sure I will do that again. Those things hold the humidity like no other! I know I started it out with it way to high. In the 70's..so the goop! I kept opening the bator the firs part of the day to get the humidity down, took a while, then it was down in the low 70's for a while, then the high 60's, finally, got it down to mid 60's. I had filled all the trays. I remember now how that thing held the humidity. Oh well, went into lock down this morning with the last BBS eggs. Hope I get some blues. Then I'll call this guy to come and get some chicks. He lives in Gunnison. A bit of a drive, but he likes driving out here. Has been here a couple of times. I'm not doing eggs for him again though, and I know he will be asking about getting those expensive ones from Florida..100 bucks for 6 eggs! He would pay, but I'm scared to death they wouldn't hatch!

No I seriously love all the random colors that come with the breed. I think they're gorgeous. Ack! You just made me Google some pictures! How could you do that to a friend? How?
that was me with the broody! (figured I'd make it easier for you to spot this post) I haven't tried to move her yet because there's still some debate going on about if it's worth a try or not, but we did find out yesterday that she's sitting on 14+ eggs. I'm 90% sure that the other hen isn't laying any more eggs in that spot, either. It's kind of funny how they trade eggs around like that. Today is day 10, to the best of my knowledge......Almost halfway there!!
if your broody made it that long i say leave her there, she is well hidden. cant wait to see pictures of the girl with her chicks
