Utah!

Now those are some purdy eggs!! Congrats! What a nice color variation..you and Lisa, have such different colors going on. Wow. Is that a pink egg I see in there?? Love the color...

Lisa, I dont have access to a computer so I cant post my pics on here. HOWEVER, ive put pics in my pic album if u want to go to my profile u can see their head feathers on there. :) I think I see some red... Maybe a comb?

And if anyone else wants to go look at my polish pics they can... Im trying to see if I can tell if they are roos or not

Whittni, here's my coronation sussex pullet (with Thing 1 in the background). I don't know why her feathers are fluffed funny. Guess it was just the way she was moving or the wind or something.

So. A funny thing happened to me at the feed store today. As we were driving there, my 7 year old asked if we could get a chick. I said, "Oh honey, they don't have chicks this time of year" ("thank goodness" under my breath).

So we get there, and the manager is telling about how a month or so ago, someone dumped a bunch of hens over the fence into their back lot overnight. George, one of the roosters, decided they were his new flock and was hanging out with them. A couple days ago, they realized that a bunch of chicks had hatched from these rogue hens. Some customers yesterday caught all but one of the hens. They thought they'd gotten all the chicks, but it turns out there was a broody banty mama with a bunch of chicks. There's also a bunch of feral cats and kittens out there, so she was a bit worried. I offered to help an employee capture everyone. So, we get this tiny little mama captured, and her TEN chicks. As we caught them, we were talking about how we could make a safe area in the petting zoo part of the store for the mom.

We get inside, and the manager announces I'm taking them all home. Ummmm, NO!!! Another customer was in there, and he was perfectly happy to take them all. I ended up deciding to take one home, because it's such a funny story.

This little girl (?) definitely takes after her daddy. He's a big, dark blue rooster. Mom was a light brownish/tan bantam. Three of the chicks were yellow, the other seven looked more or less like her.

Now that is funny. Good exercise for the mudd run I bet your kids were happy

Sphinx, you have the best chicken stories! Aren't you the one that ran into a rooster while camping also? I have to say, both your recent chick story and the rooster going camping had me laughing :D My poor DH had a panic attack when I told him the rooster story though...

Sphinx--Funny how you still ended up with the "feed store chick!" You should have played the "what did I bring back from the Cal ranch' game lol You would have won that time for sure! And NICE brown egg, yay!!!

Mimi--will go look as soon as I post. Forgot again today to get my own pics up! Argh!. I have been behind with my chores. WIll get some pics soon I promise.

So Sasha, Sphinx, a new twist to my plan for Saturday. My DD decided to go compete in a debate tournament over the weekend....THEN my son has a Scout campout I totally forgot about! And my DH is not going, he was released from scouts a while back and was not chomping at the bit to go as a Dad only this time. (he has had his fair shair lol)

So instead of Frightmares we are going on a date Friday night :) We have not been out without the kids for EVER. Will find something fun to do. Not sure if we are going somewhere overnight or just staying in town... Sasha, what time are you leaving to go the the chicken show? We will likely go to Frightmares the 27th now.

Headed off to watch Storage Wars :p

Yep, we ran into the rooster camping. AND I brought my chicks camping when I was a nervous first time chicken mom.

Sundance, the sad thing is, I'd already run 6.5 miles today in preparation for the tough mudder. But yeah, it definitely was a bit of a workout. Sadly, my kids don't care.

mimi-

The red on the light ones nose makes me think boyish....the feathers look like they are just coming in so they may fan out some and still be a girl though. Another week or two and I bet it should be more obvious. The other one looks girly still. Compared to mine, the same color, mine looks more boyish. Just guesses still.....a little longer! Ugh, we are getting closer!
