Valentine's Day 1st Annual Hatch Along

My misaligned pipper hatched finally, and I had an EE pip and zip all the way through the middle of the shell as well. Made me a nervous wreck. The EE laid in a ball with its head tucked and rolled around for the first hour, adding to the drama. Finally I said, well, lets give it time and see. I went back to check on them just now and both are fine and dandy. Just goes to show ya! I am glad that I read that post about assisted hatching and alignment and decided to keep my hands out of the incubator and just watch them.

Not a one of my LAs have pipped yet. All I have left now is the seven LAs and one remaining BY mix EE out of the 8 that went into lockdown.

Let me tell yas, I am going to sleep WELL when this hatch is over. I am feeling a bit drained at this point. However, made for a very nice Valentine's Day.

i more often hear of people's birds losing legbands then zipties. i have heard of a hand full of birds who have lost zipties by getting them caught but generally they stay on the entire birds life once they are full grown.

Thanks for all the info on toe punches and thank you for the pictures. It is interesting learning how others identify their birds and I can see the advantage of the toe punch method. One of my early hatchers jumped the divider in the hatcher so, I opened the bator quick and put a dab of food coloring on it's wing. Humidity dropped for a bit after but, it went back up as soon as the next chick hatched.

I've got 3 now! 1 pure ohiki, 1 porcelain d'uccle, a d 1 ohiki/english orpington cross. More pips under the hen. 3 peeping in the incubator.

my first early (2&1.5 days early) are 'out' working on making them stable. have the hemorrhoid cream, EMT gel and tp to help patch them. the very early pipping one has gotten much more robust and vocal but still has a little blood supply to the membrane i have with it. i am hoping the hemorrhoid cream will shut this off in the next hour. i am try to keep them calm. the others naval was mostly closed when it finished its way out of the egg. as for the rest-which are not due till monday 1:30 AM, only one has pipped but it is more on time, i have yet to listen to it though.

Finally got some action from 1 of the last three remaining eggs. It has pipped! I was wondering if, after all the hatching yesterday, there would be any chicks that actually hatch on Valentines Day.
