It's got great reviews or I wouldn't have bought it. But as a hatcher it's views ARE amazing For this price point, especially for kids at home or in classrooms, and I use my incubators for both.

And it's definitely not a cheaper one.

how many hatches has it completed? one reviewer said his was fine for a couple then all went south. i am debating about getting the reptibator one that cools as well as heats but it has some bad reviews too, and a year warranty isnt much when you consider the life of a good incubator.

i have 2 LG's running right now, one a digital with manual control and the other a digital with digital control, both have had spiking issues but mostly the one with the digital display as its sensor is mobile-i have 4 thermometers in there with it to try to calibrate fluctuations. like the person with the wood heated house i do not have central heating-only a space heater, so the ambient temp fluctuates more than the manufacturer allows. it will be easier in summer when my ac will click on automatically and maintain a more stable temp, right now its the fluctuations of night time cold with space heater to daytime temps.

Got 1 chick, another zipping under the hen, and 1 zipped a third of the way a died under the hen.

10 more eggs left to hatch under her. No action other than 3 peeping eggs in the incubator.

Finally panic inducing news:

This is the first time I have put chicks under a broody. I selected three chicks and carefully placed them under a broody hen. The hen startled a little when I opened up her brooder box, but settled quickly. She was contentedly sitting on three sleeping chicks when I left them. Now I am in panic mode hoping she will fully except them as hers.

Now if you don't mind I am going to go curl up in a fetal position and fear for the lives of three tiny little chicks. And never do anything so crazy again. Next time, if she wants to be a mama so bad she will just have to hatch her own chicks.

PLEASE update..... all OK? or not?

My first gen OE chicks are hatching out and now I'm starting to realize that I am in trouble. The OE chicks look like my BCM chicks that should start hatching at any time. Whats the best way to mark chicks if you don't have leg bands?

I tried nail polish since I had it on hand.. ha... bad idea and doesn't last... not sure why not.

permanent marker in the toe web is working OK..... but food coloring would be safer and more sure

my 2 day early pip seems weak- didnt peep back so i opened the shell up a bit to allow more oxygen in, hours later it is at least peeping sometimes if i peep at it. i also rubbed a little vitmin oil into the exposed membrane. does any one else out there use either ascorbic acid dip/spray or vitamin e on their eggs to improve hatchability??

I have heard of that.. haven't done it.

Crap. I just realized that I forgot to cut down the sides of the cardboard cartons I am using to hatch the eggs in. I cut an egg carton in half, so the four eggs sitting in the holes nearest the cuthave plenty of air flow. But the others may not. The only ones that have currently pipped are those by the cut line, that have more airflow. Would you guys worry about it enough, with pipped eggs, to take it into a steamy bathroom and try to cut the cartons down onThe uncut sides? FYI, all the spaces have a hole cut in the bottom. Its the sides that aren't cut down on many of them.

With the holes on the bottom.... I would think that would be good enough... and try to leave them alone... but I dunno

i have another pip, 1.5 days early, this one is talking. the one that pipped 2 days early is looking iffy, i looked down into the egg and can see the yolk has not been withdrawn-yet the membrane is thinning and blood flow is getting shut off. my incubator has been having some wild temp spikes, and i believe 'sticky chicks' are on that list.

I have yolk issues... I find them ultra gross.

I have one chick with a bit of a scab on the belly button... and I am so scared it might decide to die.

scabs and not 100% closed are not the end all of problems. i have hatched out turtles and lizards with the belly not completely closed and had them ok. problem is if the 'come undone' like my chick last week-it wasnt just the yolk that came out it was all intestines. problem is the stress of hatching is supposed to promote stress hormones that help withdraw the yolk and shut off blood supply to outer membrane, so if they are pulled out they sometimes may not have this minimum limit to speed up closure. i make a habit of only helping them out a little at a time and poking them to get them to struggle. this little first pip right now though doesnt have enough 'oomph' it is very quiet and that is why i was so worried to begin with. i wish i had some ascorbic acid on hand to try, as some of the papers i have read says it is beneficial to hatching (late development) success and will add an immune boosting effect.

External pip can be as much as 24hr prior to hatch. Any longer and you may want to intervene. Be very careful and lookup assisted hatching.

A low or upside-down pip can also take longer, because the chick does not internally pip into the aircell prior to the visible external pip, they pip directly through the shell.

The one that had pipped I was worried about earlier is slowly making it't say around. No other pips.

I have one right now that pipped pretty far (relatively speaking) outside where I had drawn the last air cell line. It's a real nail biter for me. I started seeing it rock about 20 hours ago and this morning I awoke to this wacky pip and a lot of peeping. But after I had three hatch this morning, nothing since. No pips, no zips. Just peeping from a few eggs, including this one with the pip. I am hoping it is just taking time due to the difficulty of breaking through where it is pipped and not due to a deformity.

Interestingly, all of my pips and hatches so far are from my EBAY lot of BY mix eggs, nothing on my LAs yet. Hmpf. Just passing the 21 day mark here in the past two hours. I am curious does anyone know if Ameracaunas tend to hatch right at 21 or a little earlier/later?
