Chickie'sMama:
I looked that instruction book up on Ebay and that looks different. Mine is more like a stainless steel with this white board insulation, it's old enough that we're not sure if it's asbestus board or masonite

but it insulates VERY well. It has a wafer thermostat in it and two racks.

I'll have to take some pictures of it....but for now it kind of looks like this.

but it has a 2 page instruction manuel that looks as old as me lol

have you had good hatch rates? This is my first time using it and I got it from a gal who just gave it to me saying, "Huh, forgot I had that. Picked it up at a garage sale years ago and never used it. You can just have it if you want."
The only real complant, if I can have one about a free bator, is that you can't see the fuzz butts when they hatch or pip. So since I have 4 types of eggs in there, like I do now, I don't know whos doing what durring lock down. (bitting fingernails)

I have 6 quail eggs due to hatch on valentines day
love.gif
, and 4 silkie eggs due 3 days later as I have just set them all this morning

I'm using a brinsea octagon 20 dx with auto turner, a bit big for my requirements but does the job well, this will be a staggered hatch and I haven't done one of those before so

may transfer the quail eggs on day 15 to my new incubator that I am due to be getting any day now providing it holds temps steady then they can hatch in there without disturbing the silkies, though this new incubator is a cheap diy polystyrene one from Ebay so I'm not sure how accurate it will be, still I am sure I can modify it!
yippiechickie.gif
will keep you all informed of the hatch and post pics if/when the fuzzy butts arrive, Bella my lonely light Sussex bantam chick will be happy as I only had her hatch on my last go

look forward to seeing all of yours

lulz! me too!!! I candled ALL the 6 millie egg's and even the 3-day staggered millie egg i put in a few day's ago that is actually due on V-day so i'm official now lulz! They are really porous "probably because she just started laying in October" BUT i could make out veins in about 5 of the 7. So, i guess my boy Cesar has been taking care of his Amy for longer than i expected! I candled 3 other light recessive egg's at random. First one was a ? because it was quite dark, second one....VEINS, 3rd one looked clear to me. 1 out of 3 is ok tho, I've got another 9 of thoes bad boy's to candle. With overnight shipping i dropped $160.00 on them "most money i have ever spent on EGGS
th.gif
," but it's what i needed to start a good small flock for me and my family to enjoy. If i hatch just 2 of them i got my money's worth since a started pair of recessive light sussex sell for no less than $200 shipped. I might post pictures up of them if you guy's would be intrested?

Good Lord that's a lot of money! If these turn out ok. I plan on buying two dozen EE eggs and a dozen silkie eggs for about $100 total. The silkies are half of that cost.

yep, eggs are a gamble...BIG time. But if you can incubate with the best of them, paying top dollar for adult bird's just seems silly. That and you miss out on the special bond's you can make with your newly hatched babies.
