Valentines day hatch?

If you have room in your bator throw in the washed eggs. I had room in my incubator last summer so I threw in some of my sons washed and refrigerated silkie eggs. They all developed!!! Needless to say I was completed shocked but sooo pleased :D

I am getting so excited about the upcoming incubation/hatch!!!!!!!

Oh wow!! I sooo wish I'd known this when my flock was killed this fall. :( I remember taking the eggs out of the fridge to eat and seeing the spot when I'd crack them, I miss my roo so bad! I never would have thought to try hatching after refrigeration!

I honestly didn't expect boo so when I saw development and had them hatch I was doing the happy dance!

So all 24 eggs she gave me today were fresh after all, they ended up getting 7 today, one from each girl. When I got home I realized that one of the eggs was cracked. I patched it with wax but it was still weeping so I went ahead and made myself an omelet. No big seal really, since I'll have 31 eggs in the incubator total. The lady seemed really interested in the whole idea of incubation and even mentioned that if my hatch goes well she may have me hatch for her and sell chicks. I guess she got her ladies within the last year as adults and had hatched about 40 ducklings under broody ducks this past spring but has never tried the incubator. I told her if all went well I would love to go into business with her so to speak. She was talking about getting some giant Peking ladies and a Muscovy drake to put over them in a different area than her egg laying flock in order to create a sort of "broiler duck" of sorts. I told her I'd send her pictures when the babies hatch. I'm happy with the interaction on the whole. Now to wait for my eggs that are coming in tomorrow. :D

Forgive me for asking but how many eggs does your bator hold? My Brinsea only holds about 23-24 chicken eggs and definitely a smaller number of duck since they are larger.

I actually am going to hook up an OHM (?) meter to my bator this time around to see how much it actually costs me to run the bator. I'm kinda nervous about that but hubby will be happier if I do it I think

I have two egg cartons to work with, so I'm setting the 8 shipped plus 16 of the locals in those, and laying the last 7 on their sides. I'll be hand turning the local eggs, and holding off on turning the shipped ones for the first week or so. Also I'll candle and weigh the local eggs on day 7, but I'll hold off on the shipped eggs till day 14.

Got my new roo last night.. He came with a mate so I'm PRAYING for at least 3-4 eggs by next weekend!! They seem to be settling in very nicely so fingers crossed! :)
