So I do Vaseline on my henscombs once it reaches 32 degrees. Often it gets on their feathers on their heads.is there any healthconcerns to watch out for. Another question one of my hens is going to be 2 years old she has a very high metabolism. She eats anything from kale stems pin feathers old fallen off feathers to trying to eat the Vaseline off my glove. Yeah she has a balanced diet. And yet another stupid question why do chickens poop so much when eating veggies again after a couple months.

You don't have to put vaseline on her comb, it is to keep moisture from clinging to it to prevent frostbite. If she has a large comb you might want to just to be safe. I don't think that there are any health concerns to watch out for, and yes it will make everything stick to their feathers. But when they molt the dirty feathers will be replaced.

Feathers are actually almost completely protein. Most chickens eat them, it's completely normal!

Thanks yeah my hens vet suggested doing so thank you for responding QUOTE="Abriana, post: 20840071, member: 474901"]You don't have to put vaseline on her comb, it is to keep moisture from clinging to it to prevent frostbite. [Kinda figured that to thanks for responding it all helps QUOTE="ChickNanny13, post: 20840146, member: 221730"]Veggies & fruit are natural laxative & more liquid than nutrition although having some vitamins ... Just my thoughts. I don't feed mine much anymore, poop gets too "soft". Also when they drink alot of water, poop gets softer.[/QUOTE]

Vaseline will not hurt her, but it's not good for her to eat a lot of it either.

What type of food/treats do you feed and how do you feed your chickens? (free choice, 1-2times a day, etc.)
Protein content of your feed?

We love photos here on BYC! If you have photos of your hens and your coop that you would like to share, that would be great.

Treats are normally kale and boss and bread but theeat meal worm now and then oyster shells once a week oregano in water but hadto put them on a small diet of peas green beans and carrots but they get kale to. Yeah I don't let her eat the Vaseline I scold her afterwards I nl don't want her eating it either

My girls have a habit of knocking over things when raised I'll take ur information into consideration for the future thank you very much
Vaseline may not even help to prevent frostbite, so it is not necessary to use it. I would probably just keep them from having high humidity in the coop, have good over head ventilation with no direct drafts, and raise waterers to prevent wattles and feet from getting wet.

Also 16% layer feed free choice I do have 3 almost 5 year old hens I would have 4 but the stress from a northern fowl mite infestation took Its toll on her but she was mite free for 2months before passing she had an amazing chicken life too I love u metor miss u baby girl
