Okay, this is purely hypothetical right now, but I want to have a plan in case it actually happens. Where we live, it is conceivable. How would you handle a venomous snake in your in ground pool? I do realize I can net the snake to get it out, but then what? I'm worried it would come up the pole at me once it's out of the pool. I'm not afraid of snakes, and hold them regularly at our zoo. But the venomous ones...well. How do I safely dispatch it ? Thanks for your suggestions on this one.

1. hold its head down
2. whack its head off
3. smile and bury
:)

Before you dispatch any snake please make sure it is not a Protected Species.

Okay, that sounds easy enough, but for one person? You've got a 10' pool pole, culminating in a net with a dangerous snake. I'm trying to picture how this would work. I guess pole over shoulder, snake trapped in net, shovel in hand to dispatch snake. Yeah, that could work I think. Thank you!

Oh, absolutely, Kevin. I only intend to dispatch those that are a danger to my family. Water moccasins, copperheads and rattlers. We mostly have copperheads around here. I am a zoo volunteer, and have spent an enormous amount of time on snake identification for our area. If it's protected or non-venomous, I'll net it out, admire it, and let it go in the garden. We love snakes here...well dh doesn't, but the rest of us do.

Call a professional .. better safe than sorry !
I do like this idea, but we live in the sticks in such a small town that we don't have any professional trappers around here. And even if I could find someone, it would take an hour for them to get here, and they would charge a fortune. So this is something I need to learn to handle on my own.

What I would do...

1. Spot snake.
2. Flail around.
3. Run into house screaming 'DAD THERE'S A SNAKE IN THE POOL!!'
4. Get my father the net.
5. Let father net it out and do something with it.
