Vent Gleet? UPDATED* fecal test indicates tapeworms and roundworms

Bumblefoot is caused by an infected cut, usually staph infection.
Tho jumping off the roost may aggravate it, it doesn't cause it......
.....unless they jumped onto something sharp enough to cut the foot.

Experience keeping animals might kinda maybe help prepare you for raising children.....but not really. ;)

Haha I hear that!

Betty's foot

Is she limping? If not, probably best not to mess with it. Her toenails look sort of long, so you might want to trim those a little.

I promise I didn't agitate the soiled feathers at all! Just poured warm water over them.

The area around her vent looks too red, so if she were mine I would clean all of the poop off and keep an eye on her.

Thank you! Yes I clipped her toenails as much as I could with human clippers, but need to buy pet clippers. I checked her last night and her skin looked SO much better but I think another long bath is needed. I read that baby shampoo can help. I just didn't want to use anything if I didn't have to.
Side note: are you the Kathy from The Chicken Chick?

Be careful with the nail clipping, not sure if you've ever clipped a dogs nails, cut too short and into the quick(blood vessel) and they can bleed like all get out.
I've found that corn starch works as good as BloodStop powder.

If you have a dremel tool with a coarse sander drum that works even better than the clippers,
tho can be hard to control...if you do grind down to the quick, it's just a tiny spot much easier to stop the bleeding.

I have seen a dog's nails clipped! My brother is trained to do it and we have blood stop powder for the cows and corn starch! I think we have a dremel too though! I'll figure out if I can use that efficiently first! Thanks for the advice!

Quote: Just gotta be really careful with the dremel, if you catch the nail wrong on the sander it can whip around in a flash and tangle hair(on a dog) or maybe cut skin on a chicken toe. Makes me almost as nervous as worrying about cutting the quick with clippers.

With the white nails one might be able to see where the quick is?
