Vent Gleet

Is she still having a discharge from the vent?

When you finish the antibiotics, I would give her some yogurt or buttermilk to help restore the gut from antibiotics. Her friend can have a little yogurt or buttermilk with her - give as a treat :)

Sometimes poop and such sticks to the skin and can make it raw - since she's bare - I would try to keep her rinsed off and apply your ointment/spray as needed to protect the skin.

I'm not sure about books. I've heard the books by Gail Damerow are pretty good - I don't know of any others

LOL Glad that was her preening/oil gland instead of an impacted feather follicle! You are right though - sometimes a feather can become impacted and create a sore - that would need to be taken care of if it happened. You sure don't want anything else to deal with right now - though I suspect you could handle it just fine! You have done a wonderful job taking care of your hen!

Thanks for the kudos. It has been a trying time.:he

I’m not a pessimist but I don’t think she is doing well ;~c Her crop and wattle seem to be getting lighter in color and she hasn’t been eating. Not even her favorite fruit or treats. Maybe I’m just off since there is a tropical depression hanging around in the Gulf of Mexico.

I love to read but generally not text books kind of 📚 s. Although I did just read How to Speak Chicken by Melissa Caughey which I found fun and informative.

Thanks again

How is she now?
I'm sorry she's not doing too well today.
Can you tell if her crop is emptying overnight?

Yes her crop was empty this morning. I couldn’t check yesterday as it was pour down rain when I let them out.
I’ll just keep monitoring her condition and check in with you on occasion if that is alright.
Thanks

Oh My! You had Cristabol to deal with didn't you?! I hope all is well.

Please do keep me updated. I wish I knew more and had better suggestions.

Cristobal is still hanging around with lots of rain and wind. Parts of Louisiana had major flooding but fortunately nothing much here in New Orleans. Seems way too early in hurricane season for any sort of activity.

please don’t underestimate how helpful you have been. My hen would probably be dead if it weren’t for your help.
stayed tuned. Thanks

I forgot to buy the Corid. Should I still treat my hens as directed? Thanks

How is she doing?
If you can get a photo of her droppings :p

I'm not sure if Corid would help, but if she's still in decline, then it might not be a bad idea that way you know you tried everything.

I didn’t get a photo of droppings yesterday but she is crying out again when she tries to poop. last night when I checked in on the hens,Chicken was panting like a wild dogs. Not really but I’ve neverseen her pant like that.
I Read excessive panting can be due to extreme heat/ stress. It wasnt very hot here last night . I also read that it is normal. Since she has been sick I may be hyper concerned or it may be stress since she has been sick. Her hen friend wasn’t panting. Do you think I should try to give her the supplement with the electrolytes? She wouldn’t drink it when I tried before when I put it in the watered...
