Please can anyone one tell me how much or how big I need to make ventilation holes on my chicken coop.i have windows but it's to drafty in the winter. And I don't want to keep them open if it's to cold for them.Im afraid I may make a mistake I have a 6x8 coupe with five windows and no vent holes on the top of each side of the walls.

Please post pictures of your coop, inside and outside.
You want to shoot for 1 sq ft of ventilation per bird, most well over the heads of roosted birds and some low to promote air flow.

I would remove the siding from the top of the window to the tie plate. Cover the opening with 1/2" hardware cloth. Add trim to cover the cut edges. I would just paint some 1x2 stock for trim. That would give you about 4 sq ft if the height above the windows is 8".
Do you have 1/2" hardware cloth over the outside of the windows? If not, I'd install it. You could leave the window next to the door cracked open and put a baffle in front of it to divert air flow up and prevent a cross breeze that may hit the birds.

Sorry I took a lot of the in side.

I was thinking something over on top of the door while and the other side on top of the window and make them even so they can flow. I know I went overboard with the coupe but I didn't know. I was a first timer.

I'm all alone so I had to buy a coop and these people said that the windows would just be fine but last year I had ammonia problems it was pretty bad so I had to clean everything out and put it back in

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday did you say above the lower windows. But not above the door and above the other side the same with so the air can flow through on the highest point. I'm sorry I'm so confused and nervous I don't want to wreck anything and I'm doing this by myself and people are saying way on top and I just I'm going crazy cuckoo because it's starting to get chilly here.

Never mind I looked at your post again and now I understand what you're talking about but do you think I should put another vent hole above the door so I have two one-on-one side one on the other side, or just put a baffle on the one above the window and then have that window open a crack with the baffle.
