Venting -- Postal Service lost my chicks

Ugh! How frustrating for you. And those poor chicks :barnie Hopefully the chicks are found before they meet an unfortunate end.

The USPS really is less than trustworthy the majority of the time. I have the USPS informed delivery and there are days that none of the mail that the email says are being delivered that day actually get delivered.

The last entry on the tracking number shows it arriving at 7:48 a.m. on Tuesday at the Sacramento Distribution facility. Then there is no more tracking information after that. I've read the Facebook reviews for this place, and it sounds like many, many things disappear into this center never to be seen again, with zero accountability or repercussions.

The manager at the distribution center claims they were put on the truck this morning. It never got here. The Post Master says that, if this is true, the next thing that should have happened as for it to be scanned in by him (or another post office if it was misdelivered). So, it's either the distribution center's fault (lying, not tracking things correctly), or the truck drivers fault (dumping it somewhere where there is no one to scan it in). I will file a complaint when all is said and done, but it won't help the poor chicks.

I don't think it is My Pet Chickens' fault. They got the chicks all the way from Ohio to California in 12 hours, but the distribution center dropped the ball.
I am also worried too since I haven't gotten my eggs yet. I am going to wait until next Monday then ask.

If, heaven forbid, you do not receive them, and must buy more, may I suggest driving somewhere to get chicks. We drove 6 hour round trip in inclement weather to Cackle to pick up our chicks so we could avoid using the mail. There are also individuals to buy from, poultry swaps, etc.

That's horrible and reminds me of my terrible experience w/ shipped chicks (ordered 10, 11 came, & 9 were dead/ dying)... Of course, mine were shipped at the end of Feb and had to travel to OH from Iowa and like yours, sat at least a day at a distribution facility. I'd warned the post office and asked them to call me ASAP. I got text alerts that the chicks were delivered at 4am, but I didn't get a call until 7:30.. it was too late by then. Hopefully the much warmer weather will be to your advantage and your delivery will arrive safe. They can live for several days after hatching without food or water so it's unlikely they'll starve with just 1 extra day in delivery. If you don't have it already, have some nutridench on hand.. I've heard that it's great for these situations (wish I'd known about it when I had my chicks delivered).
If you do have any casualties at all, be sure to call the hatchery and get a refund.

ETA: Fingers crossed that they arrive today.
