There is a Facebook page- vermont bird fanciers- that I've rehomed a few Roos on. I've also donated to VINS.

Be careful in that group. I'm in there too and there is rampant respiratory illness in there. I had to cull my entire flock and start over earlier this year after getting birds from a lady and them giving my whole flock coryza.

And it's happened to at least three other people too in the last couple months, and that's just what I know of, to say nothing of all the people who think chickens just get colds and throw medications at them until symptoms go away and don't post about it.

And I know who those three people bought from, and one of the sellers is still always on there, pushing birds and trying to sell more.

So just be careful if you're ever trying to buy bird on there.

I never buy or take birds from there ore anywhere really. I have a closed flock and only use a breeder from California who also has a closed flock. I have given away roosters there though. One of the women who took my first rooster only adds from me or her own breeding now since I explained exactly what you just said. If I ever had to cull a flock I'd probably just quite. What gets me about that page is how little people know. Posting cockerel for sale as hens?!! Then arguing genetics is wrong and it is a hen lol. Anyway...

I got lucky (well, relatively anyway), coryza doesn't affect waterfowl nor can it pass through the egg so I just hatched a bunch of chicks from my own eggs and my waterfowl were okay.

Yeah, the misinformation in there is staggering. One of the people who's always posting in there that acts like she's an expert tried to send me a message to ask if I was vet just because I know basic info about chicken health and diseases.

And most of the group is like this, sigh. I just hang out in there to sell and show off my birds. Never again will I buy anything from that group aside from a few members whom I know personally and know have good, disease free birds.

Well if your interested in olive eggers my broody is sitting on some due to hatch on 15th. She's part of my first order of chicks and is 2 now. Last year I let her raise and she kept them for 6 weeks before weening. The rest of my birds are from the breeder with the exception of 4 I took from runnings in April that I kept separate for 3 months before integrating. I have only ever had to cull twice- one went prolapse vent that 5 days of constant care didn't fix and the other was part of my original order years ago and had reproductive issues. Never laid a normal egg. I swore off hatchery chicks after those. Momentary lapse in the spring and brooded separately for some faverolles:p.

I will be breeding BLCM and BCM next year that I will sell. I'll come back and show off my birds this weekend:)

I'd be tempted by olive eggers, but I'm NPIP so I couldn't buy unless you are too. NPIP certification has curbed my impulse buying significantly :p

Can't wait to see your birds! I'll have to post some pictures of my ACs and brahmas sometime.

I am also member of that group, and I was able to rehome one rooster earlier this year through it, but generally speaking, that group is seriously ridiculous. As you and Pyxis pointed out the ignorance of basic chicken care is staggering.

Ugh.

Here are my latest FBCM that I hope to breed next year. 16weeks here. The cockerel is over colored but I have dark girls that should balance that out. Can't wait to see their eggs. My Blue roo is also over colored but we will see next year what he throws with the girls :)

Very pretty birds! How's the egg color?
Don't know yet. The blue roo is from the same breeder and that lot was all boys. This lot yielded 1 boy and 3 girls. Breeder they came from works for balance of SOP and egg color and says they lay a minimum of 6 on the scale. I'm trying to balance bird quality with egg color also so this is a good starting point for me.
