i don' t think its corzya cause she doesnt seem sick. no sneezin or fluid coming out of her nose. like i said she seems healthy as anything. would eyes just sink in if she got old? my dad said shes about 6 or 7 years old.

No, her eyelids shouldn't swell that much (or eyes sink in) just b/c she's old. Age isn't a disease.

She doesn't necessarily have to have a systemic infection to have coryza there. If she had it and got over it that could be left over.

lol, oh ok. well, ill see wat i can do. i guess ill just try and keep her healthy. thanx for your help

She isn't healthy so you cannot keep her that way. She is ill. She needs either medication or you need to cull her, IMO, the poor thing. This looks like an infection that has been going on way, way too long. She probably is blind.

Coryza can cause the eyelids to stick together. It is possible that she has had an infection and that the eyelids are "glued" shut. I would recommend that you gently wash off the outside of her lids and then try to open them to see what condition her eyes are in.

well i suppose i could cull her. shes had many different medications. she looks like she is in no pain. i normally can tell. im a farmer and been to school for desease stuff. just never seen this b4. the agri-vet says it may have been from coyrza she had b4 but shes healthy now. just has no eyes. he says nothin i can do bout it anymore. cull her or let her live blind. but i believe that is my desiscion. ill think upon it. thanx again

Sorry if I sounded testy in my posts. I was thinking of her in pain or blind and not able to eat well, etc. Never easy to decide to put down an animal for me, personally, but sometimes, it's just the best thing. Sorry about your hen.

well i guess since we got the new flock we havn't spent as much time with this one. she just walks around on her own outside. we do now how to watch our flock.we check them over every weekend for any desease or anything that mite be wrong. believe me. this old girl gets food and water with electrolytes every day. i guess mabye we just abandoned her a little too much since she wusnt with the others.
rip clara!

How aweful to suffer like that. That poor hen.

3 years old is NOT old by any means. Chickens well cared for can live 15+ years. How sad she was written off so easily if she was a favorite hen.

Catch her. Clean her eyes. See if they are glue shut by puss or mucus. They look very swollen to me. If nothing else you owe it to her to clean her up and at least put some terramycin eye ointment in her poor eyes.

Check her over from head to toe.
