I have had chickens off and on for many years and never saw something like this! It looks like an umbilical cord sticking out of the pointy end. Anyone have an idea what this is about??

Looks like it came with a stalk from the ovary and the whole thing has been calcified by the shell gland.

That makes sense. I know it is just a fluke thing and may never see it again. I also notice it isn't on the pointy end I just thought I remembered it that way until I saw my own pic......duh

I've gotten two eggs this year that were exactly like that. I guess it must be an umbilical cord. Now it's got me looking very closely at all my eggs trying to see the belly button.

Very odd egg... I love it when they throw a strange one now and again. It keeps things interesting.

Well, the boy thing could be a possibility [IMG] If it's an umbilical cord it is definetly an outey not an inney.

Well, I got brave and cracked it for the dogs dinner tonite and it looked totally normal. Thank goodness there wasn't an alien form in there.
