Vet tech gets bit - Dog now on death row

We had one vicious little Dach that ended up sweetening up after having extensive back surgery. He had some complications and a lot of pain. The owners brought him in twice daily for morphine injections. Every time he tried to bite or snap, he got instant correction for it with severe pain! Then he would get his shot and felt better. I think it was a combination of the "punishment", plus realizing that after he saw us he felt better, that finally sweetened him up. Before that, he was one that would take your face off if you weren't VERY careful!

The two stories are very different. In one the woman says her dog bit the vet tech while she was holding the dog, in the other she says she didn't see what happened. If you are holding the dog, you should be able to see what is going on. This was in lobby, I sort of doubt the tech was holding scissors in the lobby, but who knows. It sounds like the town is going after it, not the tech. But it is a hazard of the job.

Personally, every weiner dog I've ever met has been nasty and snappy. And the owners think they are lovely and precious.

You would not necessarily see if you weren't watching--maybe she was looking around hte lobby, watching other animals, even watching the tail end of her dog. THere are not a lot of dog breeds I dislike, but dachsunds and chi-wa-wa's (I can't spell that) are two breeds I dislike based upon personal experience of being chased up a wall and nearly being bitten both, when I was a kid. BTW, the wall was a kitchen wall at my friend's home. I was doing nothing to the dog when it charged across the room, snarling and barking at me. The chi-wa-wa had better grounds--it was asleep when I pet it, startling it.

Yes there is Workers Comp. But I wonder how much of the plastic surgery they would cover? There's often a difference of opinion on how much work they should do and if they (Workers Comp) feel that the wound is fixed and doesn't look to bad they may call any further treatment elective. It would be interesting to see what the outcome of the medical treatment is. I think most women could handle some scaring on the hand, arm or leg. But scaring on the face is a whole different thing.

Ummm, as a vet I have to say that this is absolutely ridiculous. I would never even think of going after someone b/c their dog bit me or one of my techs. That being said, we're smart enough to muzzle what needs to be muzzled.

On a side note, I did have a lady REFUSE to let me muzzle her snippy little Chihuahua the other day for his nail trim, which he hates. I managed to hold my tongue and we got his nails done without one, but if he'd really tried to bite she could have taken both of them out the door and good riddance! We ARE allowed to fire clients.

I think everyone should call this clinic at the same time on the same day and blow up their phones with phone calls of disgust, plus email as many emails as you can , we should all speak up!!!!!

in my case it's where the owner refused to allow me to put a slip lead on the dog.. She was bringing him in for boarding and a neuter.. She had asked for assistance since she was having problems getting him into the office.. as she was trying to lead him in he bolted and ran out into the highway.. she got him back into her car.. I offered the slip lead and she refused (so why ask for help when you're gonna refuse it?).. again the dog broke away from her and headed out into traffic.. this went on several times with the dog almost getting hit in the process... when she finally got him back to her car he lunged at me biting me in several places (bad enough that I HAD to go to the emergency room.. ) after the dog finally let go I pushed the woman aside while she was standing there gaping like a goldfish at the bite wounds.. I slipped the lead around his neck and led him into the kennel area while she stood there watching my clothing turn red from all the blood.. to this day I still don't blame the dog.. he was scared to death from all the cars and her heightened state.. so he was reacting in the only way he knew how
My boss did pay for the emergency room visit and all that entailed.. which was good since i didnt have any insurance
