Vetrx how effective is it ?

for those who have used Vetrx what was your success with it and what dosage did you use?
VetRx is a remedy for poultry/fowl. It would be similar to us using Vicks Vapor Rub.
As for how much success? It's possible it could help clear the sinus (like vapor rub).

What are you trying to treat? If you are treating respiratory disease, you really need to figure out which one you are dealing with. Mycoplasma, Infectious Bronchitis, Infectious Coryza and Newcastle are some of the more common respiratory diseases that chickens can have. Other causes of respiratory distress/symptoms can include ammonia toxicity and aspergillosis.

Dosage for VetRx is found on the information sheet inside the box (that can also be found on the VetRx website http://goodwinol.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/py-click-to-learn-more.pdf

Information is found on drugs.com as well.

I have never used Vet Rx, but many people try it. I am fairly skeptical because the only ingredients are rosemary and oregano oil, camphor, balsam (an evergreen) oil, in a corn oil base. Vicks could be a similar product without the herbal oils.

As Wyorp Rock suggested, it might be good to figure out what symptoms you are seeing, and decide if it might be a virus that will require supportive care, or a bacterial infections such as MG that might require antibiotics. This link has symptoms of the common respiratory diseases:

He had bubbles forming at the base of his eye so I am thinking mycoplasma is the cause. would vet Rx help you think?

VetRx is as good as Vicks VapoRub, it'll open sinusus.
For MG, you need tylan 50. Depending on the severity of the strain, you may want to cull.

If there are no other symptoms of MG, there might be debris in the eye, such as dirt from dust bathing or maybe a piece of fluff or feather irritating the eye. Liberally flush the eye with saline solution first, then apply terramycin eye ointment or neosporin in a pinch.
If after several days you see bubbles again, give tylan 50 orally.
Other birds will be infected if it's MG. Good luck and let's hope it's not MG or any other disease.

VetRX is like an herbal remedy and can be used in addition to antibiotics or medication if it's something really serious. If it's something like mycoplasma, you'll have to use something that'll treat it but you can use an herbal remedy on the side.

Herbal remedies for chickens are just like ones for humans. It can be used as a preventative, but it'll only do so much and when things become serious, you need to use medication.

Herbal remedies for MG will do nothing. I wont throw out a bunch of links to prove it. Birds are a different ballgame than mammals and humans.
That's why herbal remedies are only a preventative... Once a disease or illness has settled in, it's time for actual medication.

Of course mammals, humans, and birds are a different ball game.

Once an animal is infected, preventatives aren't going to help. Preventatives are used before disease and illness, medication is used during.

For poultry respiratory diseases and the like, including MG...the only preventative is strict biosecurity. For worming...yup, chemicals are great preventatives, especially if your soil is warm, moist/wet most of the year!

Folks who use herbals should know how much to use, for how long, when to expect effectiveness, duration of effectiveness, adulteration, preservatives, where did it originate from (China?) contraindications, withdrawals, overdosing and how to counteract it. We all know chickens hide their illness to the last minute. You gotta hit them hard and fast if you want to try and nip it in the bud. That's where chemicals come into play. Then there is the cost factor especially from herbal stores. Same with herbal use in humans.

I have had him on Oxymav B which has Oxytetracycline hydrochloride as an active ingredient. so far its been 2 days on it and there is an improvement. The bubbles in his eyes have disappeared and the discharge which has been coming out of his nose has decreased. I don't want to cull him as he is the only rooster I have that is dark Brahma and hard to find where I live.

Just Wondering if Vetrx will aid in his recovery? it looks like he is doing better compared to 2 days ago.
