Video of my sick Hen =(

My polish has been going through this. Have you tried worming her? I ended up having to give mine water with a dropper constantly. She would eat scrambled eggs.

she is drinking not eating .. I myself have Lyme disease and stress sets me off for relapses so uuugh here goes one Im having a hard time with this.... I got up today and gave her a warm bath I got some yogurt and she didnt touch it . I gave her a bit of olive oil too ..her poo in the morning had some black stuff in it up until now it was clear with a white mucus in it and this was before the olive oil treatment ..she is still very weak . I have her in the house with me I was thinking about giving her ensure ???? has anyone ever tried that ??? I used to give it to an elderly couple as a cna when they werent eating its full of protein and lots of good stuff .. God I wish I had grew up on a farm when I was a kid .. Im about to have my bf help me check her vent ..(he's not happy) But **** it I feel I need to do everything I can for her ..I know what its like first hand to be so ill you cant even move .. I havent worked the last year because of my illness and now bringing her to the vet would not even be plausible . Money is extreamly tight and the way these vets are around here you pay up front or they dont treat ! not to mention if my vet would even consider seeing a chicken .. I will keep you posted on progress today .... Also do they still lay eggs when they are ill ?? should she have laid one ?? again my appologies for being such an idiot ...

Can you possibly get her to a vet. With her so sick (she is in big trouble here and needs the right help fast) and you new to chickens (as we all were at some point), there may not be time for trial and error here....and as we all know from being sick at some point, 5 minutes sick can feel like an eternity :(

This is a very good point. An avian vet would be ideal, however many areas don't have them. Call around.

Not many people are willing to spend money on a vet for a chicken; it is totally a personal choice. That is why most people treat illnesses themselves. But if you are emotionally attached to her, get her to a vet as soon as possible.

Just went to clean out the box she is in and she has yellow watery poo it used to be white ..not sure that means anything and its everywhere its like the minute she drinks out more comes =(

Sorry, I posted before I had read your new post. If a vet is out of the question because of money being tight, then you must treat yourself. It's ok, that is what most people do. You are doing your best for her, please stay calm and do not beat yourself up! I have fibromyalgia, and stress makes it worse too, so I understand where you're coming from.

She is drinking, that is good. Please try the scrambled egg. I do not know about the ensure. You are NOT an idiot, you are just new to chickens.

Is her crop swollen?

How did the vent check go?

When hens are very ill they usually don't lay eggs. However, theres always exceptions.

also her crop still feels like a water balloon but ive seen alot of this on youtube and it doesnt look to the extream as I have seen to me she looks normal if i were to say the size of what i was feeling it would be about the size of a walnut maybe a bit bigger and instead of being hard its like a water balloon.. on a lighter note I saw a old man driving up the road with a tractor and had my bf go chase him down to see if maybe he had raised some chickens at some point and could help ....My bf isnt back yet ...

Mine is now back to eating crumbles. I was told to mix crumbles/yogurt and she wouldn't eat it. She ate scrambled eggs like a mad woman. If yours doesn't eat them eight away, keep trying.

Mrs chick chick no vent check yet I saw a man in a tractor headed up to plow the field and i sent my bf after him ...but Im glad you asked because have you ever done this ? Im afraid ill hurt her and how far and what should i feel ? you have been a blessing so far everyone on here has !!

Yellow diarrhea is a sign of a serious bacterial infection. How old is your hen? When was the last time she layed an egg? My suggestion is to reseach Egg yolk peritonitis and see if the symptoms match. You need to get her on strong antibiotics. If it is EYP only a hysterectomy can save her.
