Video of my sick Hen =(

It took me months to get to the place where I could mercifully end my favorite hen's life. Even then I cried like a baby. Her internal laying would get better, then worse again, over and over. She was suffering greatly. For you this hen's illness has come on suddenly and it is hard to think about doing anything like that when you are trying so hard to save her. I don't think badly of you. Perhaps she will pull through.

Have you determined what exactly you think the problem to be? Is her crop still squishy and bloated like a water balloon?

My little girl Gracey just ate =) .... my son had a vienna sausage i smushed it up with the baby food and tried to get her to eat some from the cup ..she wanted nothing to do with it at all then as I was trying to get the cup up out of the pen some spilled out she ate it !!! so I gave her more she continued to eat approx. half a teaspoon !! the most I have seen her eat in over three days !!!! yey !!! she also seems more alert and actually got fiesty when i tried to give her more antibiotic .... I dont want to get too excited she is still pale and is still panting but her eyes are wide open and she is acting curious again looking around the pen and even followed a fly that came by to steal some sausage =)
Yay!

Seems like the antibiotic is helping her.

GRACE'S UPDATE............... Sat 8am ......she is still alive ...

...I gave her more Doxy this morning not an easy a task as it used to be She seems stronger and fights me more .. I made her more scrambled eggs mashed up some banana and strawberries and gave her plain yogurt .... she still isnt that interested in eating if I drop a couple pieces on the bottom of the bin she will peck at it for a bit and then not bother with it anymore .. When I took her from the bin to administer the Doxy her color seemed better ..more so when she is standing and I guess circulating her blood because when she is sitting it seems to fade again .. she isnt as sleepy ...more alert and stronger ... Im sure if I could get more nurishment to her she would perk up even more .. I will go get more vienna sausage today and scour the market for something she may like .. I want to thank everyone for standing by me in this ... I dont know for sure what Grace has wrong with her.... all I know is for some reason after the doses of Doxy she seems to be getting a little better .. She is by far not out of the woods yet ...and I know I will probably have another exausting day ahead of me I hope to post a video of her later so keep checking back ... Thanks Julianna

For basic nutrition during times when diet isn't good, 3 drops Polyvisol liquid childrens vitamins daily. If administered via dropper, do so slowly and carefully, dribbling along her beak line so she swallows on her own and doesn't choke. Stuff smells like it tastes horrible so follow with a yummy tasty treat that will take the taste away.A couple of squished blueberries (wash pesticide off if not organic), watermelon, whatever will work given that she isn't interested much in food. I couldn't go back and read why doxy but if the reason for her sickness is still unknown days after sickness began, and she doesn't markedly improve soon, she needs an accurate diagnosis and treatment as prolonged sickness and lack of needed nutrients takes a lot out of them....Hoping she will soon be feeling good again....

JJ,

JJ ........ Doxy because its all I have in the house.. I cant afford a vet due to my illness and being out of work myself... Im self treating her .. I believe its EYP ?? I hope I said that right she also seemed to have a squishy crop but because im so new to all this Im not sure I know what im feeling... So far i checked the vent ..nothing there... but gave a warm bath for 20 min ... I also administered some olive oil and warm water .. she is secluded in my home with me in a bin.. She seemed to be near death the last couple days wouldnt eat barely drank and layed with her eyes closed wouldnt move her comb is very pale.. she seems skin and bones but you couldnt tell by the way she fluffed her feathers.. I started giving the Doxy as a last ditch effort to save her ..to be honest i have no idea what Im doing but it seems to help her ..she ate yesterday for the forst time in three days today a bit more energy ..I still cant get her to eat more then just a peck here or there she picks only when the food drops in front of her ... I cant say for sure that its EYP it was a suggestion form another member and seemed to make scence I found shelless eggs and I guess that with her symptoms ??? anyway still treating and praying thats all I can do

Amazing Grace ..........how sweet it is ........ O .m gosh what a day .... This morning she was doing ok nothing to brag about .. I was still worried about her eating ... her strength seemed better and her curious nature was back she started cooing and making chicken noises but nothing like..... NOW ...... oh my gosh I have been smiling for the past hour I wanted to post a video I took but my camera battery is almost dead and the last time I uploaded on to youtube it took over 2 hours to get it to post so I will just post some pics I took .... I wanted to say first and foremost I know this doesnt mean shes 100% I will continue treating her and keeping a very close eye on her .. But for now I want to bask in the glory that my little girl is still alive and almost herself again eating drinking and LOOK her tail is up !

appologies on all the type os...thats my lyme I have nero lyme( in my brain) so some time you just have to figure out the words ... LOL I usually try to proof my posts and even then its not full proof anyway I think you can figure it out ......

I'm so glad - and relieved - that she is doing better........
See if you can get some probiotics into her to compensate for the antibiotics. Comes in capsule form and you can sprinkle some on something she'll eat quickly/readily like a bit of watermelon, for example. I would keep this up for a couple few weeks ..... Yogurt works too (if she likes it) but I hesitate to recommend because it's not known what's wrong with her and if her problems have been crop related, it's real important that she has the right foods. By the way, I might have missed it somewhere in this thread, but what is her normal diet (and age)?
