oh and an hour later my bf returns from supposedly talking to the guy on the tractor to tell me he would chop its head off and eat it !!! OMG REALLY !!!?? People can be so cruel !

I would still look up EYP. I think your hen is showing symptoms of this disease. It is not uncommon.

When you said that you were chasing down a tractor I knew the answer you would get. Farmer's rarely treat sick chickens. They are not pets, they are livestock.

I'm not sure what your 'membrane' is. Could be part of an egg that didn't form correctly. Could be some intestinal lining. Hard to tell.

Try making a mash from crumbles, yogurt and water. Mix well. Hand feed her this mixture. If she won't eat on her own, you need to get nourishment into her. Put this into her beak, she should swallow. You can stimulate the swallow reflex by rubbing her neck downwards. With this mixture you won't have to worry about water as it contains all the moisture they need. I would also get poly vi sol, without iron and give her .5mls per day. She needs nutrients.

Sorry she is so sick. Hope you find your answer soon. Sometimes, a necropsy is the only way to ever get a definitive answer.

leadwolf.............. I googled and read about eyp ... I have found a shell less egg in the last couple weeks and then the odd one yesterday on the ground .. she hasnt eaten in three days Im going to try a bit of my antibiotic in some warm water I know its probably not the best idea but Im stuck and cant get her to a vet and i need to try this I mean if its bacteria i am on doxicycline for my lyme i will try a very tiny bit in her water to see if it will help at all =( .................................god give me the strength =(

Yup, don't be too hard on the tractor driver. That's about the answer you'd get with most old timers, farmers and livestock oriented folks. There's no vets for chickens anywhere near farmers. There's a sharp hatchet and that's about it.

Frankly, many of these situations must end this way. Compassionately, quickly ending suffering. That tube could be a lining from her reproductive system, not a foreign object at all.

When I'm stuck, I will try anything to help. If it doesn't, I haven't lost any ground and if it does, I have gained. Good luck with the antibiotic. I have no idea what the dose would be for a chicken. Sometimes you just have to live by...it can't hurt and it just might help. You will know when the time comes to end her suffering..until then, good luck. Hold yourself together, your health is more important. All you can do is try your best. That's really all any of us can do. Sending up prayers for strength.
