I'm dying here.
Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.
Note: This feature may not be available in some browsers.
I have a couple problems with your theory. . i was not on the app when I tried to watch the video initially. . I was using chrome browser. It allowed me to watch it on fire fox browser. . but not chrome or through the app I just downloaded today. Here it is. This is going to be a long post with pictures. Hang around.
The answer to why you can't view certain videos on the appThe two videos mentioned in this thread that DO NOT work when viewed on the app are both listed as "Unlisted"
It's the app; It's the creator
Both are to blame
Example 1:
View attachment 1427846
Example 2:
View attachment 1427847
The two videos used in this thread that DO work when viewed on the app are both listed as "Public" or at least are not unlisted
Example 1:
View attachment 1427850
Example 2:
View attachment 1427851
The issue arises when a video is listed as "Unlisted" on YouTube. Although an unlisted video can be viewed if a link is shared or the video is posted somewhere, there is a catch. An unlisted video is a different type of private video. "Unlisted" means that only people who know the link to the video can view it (such as friends or family to whom you send the link). An unlisted video will not appear in any of YouTube's public spaces (such as search results, your channel, or the Browse page).
What the APP is trying to do (that doesn't happen when you use anything else) is going through a public space to view the video. The app's browser (hence the "your browser does not support...." issue) is sensing that this video is unlisted and is like "Hold on a minute. I'm not sure you have permission to view this video." So it stops you from seeing the unlisted video.
How to prevent this issue as the creator
- When you upload a video, whether on mobile or desktop, make sure to select the "Public" option. (Do not use "Private" to avoid the app interfering. You also need a link to view "Private" videos. And there is a quota on how many people you can share it with.)
- Share the link to the video, or embed the video. Nothing else needs to be done.
How to fix an already occurring issueLong story short, the app will not let you view videos marked as "Unlisted".
- If you are the creator you need to go back to the video and change the settings so that the video is listed as Public. Then, reupload the video to BYC.
- If you are not the creator you should contact the creator and ask them to do the above.
