Virginia

Help please! I tried to post this in the Diseases/emergency forum, but it did not post for some reason.

So......Our three year old rooster kind of staggered out of the coop yesterday, holding his head side ways. By the afternoon, his head tilt was more pronounced, though he no longer staggered (he must have adapted to it). I gave him and the hens yogurt (primarily to address vent gleet in a hen).

By the evening, his head was completely turned around and upside down (kind of the rooster equivalent of the exorcist). We placed him in a nest box for the night. This morning, I gently straightened his head, and he ate more yogurt. About an hour later, he was out walking normally, and crowing.

Any idea what this is? I am terrified that it might be Marek's. We have 8 other apparently healthy hens (aside from one with what looks like vent gleet), and nine two week old chicks being raised by a hen.

Advice appreciated. TIA.

HI all, I am new to the Virginia thread :) I thought here would be a good place to ask if anyone were interested in a 4 week old campine (I'm thinking) roo. He is super cute and started crowing last week. I ordered all girls but of course it's not 100% obviously! I live near Roanoke.

Super cute,,,but I can merely enjoy you sharing the photo. I'm sure there's someone who would love to have it.

Hey! Richmond here... New to chickens. Just got my first pullets, 2 barred rocks and a silver laced Wyandotte. We are going for the urban chicken tractor approach. Anywho, just peaking in and saying hi cause I'm probably goin go be reaching out!

Hi,.
You a good distance from me if your Richmond area. They don't allow roos. Not for me. I like my RoofTop of Virginia. We get to have as many beautiful alarm clocks as we want. In my hey day I had over 200 grown and 50 of them were roos. I am seriously down sizing so mine are only around 200, with around 30 fully grown now. Still down sizing. All these chicks do not get to stay. I have given mostly away. Last year I sold them 4 for $10. This year I gave away and once I sold for $5. Each. I have no problem rehoming chicks as I paid &25-175 their parents when they were day old chicks. I have to recoup my funds someday.

Yeah Richmond definitely does not allow roos and from I heard they strictly enforce the law. I'm ok with that though because lord knows I don't need little chicks to worry about right now. I'm very excited however to start this "chicken journey". We have wanted chickens for awhile but never dove in the waters. Well we are now official.

Welcome Daox13!

3 will turn into 20 soon enough. They're addictive. :)

I started up again a while back with a small coop and 5 chickens. Now I have 4 coops and more chickens than I should have. If I can keep the snakes from eating the hatching eggs and chicks, I'll be a happier camper.

Only 4 runs? Right now with 30 adult chickens and roos we have empty runs. Wow. Went from 200 + to 30 in no time. Oh well. I was even selling them yeaterday. We do have chicks but son has claimed them and a few women got some.
