I agree. Vultures are magnificent birds. It amazes me how such a homely bird can be so breathtakingly beautiful in the air.
They circle our pasture and timber all summer. If we have to dispatch a raccoon that is pillaging our garden or trying to get at the chickens, we always leave it in a clearing for a vulture pigfest.
My husband flies RC planes. All he has to do is launch and gain altitude and suddenly 4 or 5 vultures appear to fly with him. I told my husband that they must think that 'funny looking vulture' he's flying must know where the really good eats are.
What amazing me about these really huge birds is how they own the air. We will be driving down the road and see two or three in the middle of our lane feasting on roadkill and it seems as though we are going to hit them. We have had birds wait till we are almost upon them and launch straight up into the air and skim over the top of our car.
I've never seen a vulture as roadkill, but bless them, they make roadkill go away real fast.
