The hens are 20 weeks today and our Black Star that the kids named, "White Toe" gave us our first little egg.

Here it is!

BTW, it was delicious!

PS: I put it next to a John Quincy Adams dollar cause that first egg cost us alot!!

With 18 hens I'm hopeful that soon we'll start gettting 10 to 12 a day.

Here is the pic of "White Toe"

Isn't she beautiful?

Thanks everyone, I thought I was excited but my boys couldn't wait to tell all of their friends and to show the egg off.. I'm amazed it didn't get broken it was handled so much...

I wondered if it would even have any yolk it was so tiny, but it did and it was wonderful.

Now we just wait patiently for the rest of the hens... can't wait until I can fill an egg carton and take it to my back yard neighbor who is next to our coop.

Congrats Mahonri!!!

The thing that always amazes me is the difference between a store bought egg yolk and the ones my chickens lay....pale yellow versus a rich vibrant orange....

I don't normally eat eggs but the flavor difference is evident as well....

Here's to your family boxing a dozen a day real soon!

I was laughing at my boys this morning. I've never seen them check the coop so often... they want to bring in eggs!!!

Now begins the wait for the first green egg from our two EEs.

Ah, such great fun.

Congrats! I've got a BO who laid her first yesterday. She's been in and out of the next box all morning so my son and his friend have been checking every 10 miutes. Aaaah! Leave her alone already!!
