Don’t do what I did when my cayugas were little. I put a small amount of white nail polish on the shoulder blades so I could tell him apart from the females but not eat it. But then the girls could see the different color and they pecked at it until the hair was all gone in that spot. Poor dude.
You could buy some bands online. The bands we have in our tractor Supply are for adults. When mine were almost full grown, I bought colored zip ties. But you have to be very careful to not make it too tight.
Yes the pine shavings is normal. Think of them as teething toddlers right now. They are learning by putting things in their mouth.
