Waiting on the city, just shot a possibly rabid yote.

Yeah they really would just rather that you went ahead and took care of it. Sounds like you are on top of the situation.

Okay so they did swing by to pick her up after I spent all day preparing her a burn pile... BUT the guy told me I should know in a matter of days. Seeing as no one was injured, the animal was covered in lyme as soon as I was sure as it was dead, and any place blood touched was burned he said I should be in good shape. However, if she was rabid I will be given large traps to begin placing for the pack that lives in the ravine behind myself. They're going to try catching and testing a few more ONLY IF she is positive. If she was poisoned, I will not hear from them.

On the bright side, I got all the trees I'd cut down last month pulled up and burning. Nice hot fire that lasted until I put it out to come in for the night. It's mostly coals now anyways. So yay for that, and I'm hoping that I don't get a phone call and if I do it's stating she was poisoned by one thing or another.

I'm betting that it was injured from your previous shot and was delerious from either the injury or poison. I've seen poisoned mice come out from hiding and wander all over the place acting like that.

You better keep the hacthes battened down and the rifle close if you have a pack of them to deal with.

Yep. Good strong pack of ridiculous numbers last count, should be 11 less now with her officially gone. Funny thing is I haven't, nor have my neighbors, shot/trapped a male. They seem less likely to wander into our areas. They've hunted my neighbors calves down on many occasion and their denning area is so close I'm out everynight listening to their yodeling. A few weeks ago we called them up, and had ten or more around the base of the stand trying to find the stranger on their turf. Small, but numerous.

When she was originally shot, she turned just as I pulled the trigger and it went through her ear and grazed her shoulder. Just enough for an infection. I always shoot to kill, but as close to the den as we ar there was no way of knowing if she died or not until she showed up again. Infection and poison are big factors that could be played. Her shoulder was NASTY looking, and she smelled so bad I puked...

Everyone gets locked up tight at night, with auto lights that go right into my face if something triggers them. They haven't really been coming up lately, not to say she wasn't just the first of many to return. The den was recently moved and they're less than 1/8 a mile from me now. The ravine is 500 yards into the woodline and tracks constantly through there... Oh well, she makes number 11 out of that pack so I HOPE were not seeing them because numbers are low.

Miss Red, what county are you in? I am in Polk county and would like to know if you have rabid yotes in the neighborhood. I will suscribe to this thread, so please post what the test results are.
