Ideal doesn't sell real Ameraucanas and neither do feed stores. They are either lying or don't know what they're talking about. Although at this point I'm inclined to believe it's the former and not the latter.

The only hatcheries that I know of that do sell true Ameraucanas are Meyer and Cackle.

I was so disappointed that I emailed Ideal today. This is a copy of their reply:

Yes, our chicks are Ameraucanas. They do not lay any color egg other than the blue/green egg that is true to the Ameraucana breed. We do not breed or select them by plumage color, so you may receive an Ameraucana that has plumage not listed in the standard of perfection. We do not have show quality poultry but it is pure bred.
Thank You,

Are you sure those Breds are the only breeds?
I see:
Welsummer or Brown Leghorn. Speckled Sussex if has pink legs.
Black Sex Link. Unless you know it's a Olive Egger. It could be as well.
Barred Rock. CM have white legs.
Easter Egger
SLW
Yes I have a welsummer. Are the CM’s leg all white? My CM has some dark color on the front of the legs.
Regarding the OE, I believe it is an Olive egger. I have a 6 week old black sex link and they have some differences.

That right there means they know they're lying. By definition, if it doesn't meet the SOP they shouldn't be selling them as Ameraucanas.

Also this is what they say on their site:
"Ameraucanas, known as the "Easter Egg Breed", are a multicolored breed. They have beards, muffs and a normal tail with a tail head. They are often incorrectly called Araucanas, which have ear tuffs, are rumpless, and do not have a tail head which gives them a bunny tail appearance. Most of the chicks sold as Araucanas are really Ameraucanas, which are excellent, efficient producers of large eggs of many colors and shades including blue and green."

These are lies.

That makes me so mad

Well, can't say I'm not a bit disappointed, because my dad raised ameraucanas. But I still love the little buggers just the same
I hate that happened to you. Makes me a little upset when the feed stores and hatcheries aren’t properly describing what they’re selling. It’s like paying for a purebred lab and finding out you got a lab mix. Doesn’t mean it’s not a good dog and you don’t love it the same but disappointing nonetheless
