WANTED: hatching partner

I randomly candle a few of the eggs that went in on the 20th....and of the ones I candled, I saw veining.

From what I've read most people candle around day 8 and I think that your temps are good, too. Keep in mind this is my first hatch, too, maybe there are some more seasoned veterans out there that can confirm???

thanks!!!>.......i promised myself that i would NOT candle until sat 05/30 but i'm dying to know what's going on with these cuties!!! gonna have to stay busy......i check the bator at LEAST every hr...then it's the last thing i do before i go to bed and the first thing i do when i wake up (even BEFORE!! my coffee)........LOL:lol:

I understand completely. I was totally frustrated when it took so long to get the incubator set up. First humidity was too high (70-80%). So I had to empty the trough in the bottom and come up with little glass jars so I could have less surface area. Then temp was hard to get settled. I have a styrofoam hovabator with a wafer thermostat that is a hammydown and it came with no instructions. But it is all settled and seems stable. But I still check it all the time. I want so badly to hatch some fuzzy butts!

I have 6 silkies in,went in on Saturday. This is my second time trying,my first 6 didnt hatch.I was sooo upset but I am not giving up! So fingers crossed for better luck second time round :)

good luck with your silkies!!! so sorry the 1st ones didn't hatch. i really really want these to hatch. i'll be devestated if they don't..can't seem to prepare myself for that possibility

I usually candle at 7 days, but will take a sneak peak at around day 3 or 4ish..lol. I don't really even take the eggs out of the bator, I get the room really dark...and use a penlight and place it at the air cell line....I can check on the air cells and see veining, and often the embryos.

Tomorrow I will candle all the ones I set on the 20th, and remove the clear ones. I am doing a staggered hatch, so Thrusday will candled the second set and Saturday the last set. Didn't plan on doing a staggered hatch, just worked out that way with the shipping of the eggs I bought.

I'm with you LALADY! I want to candle soooo bad! I want to know what's going on inside, but I'm making myself wait until day 8 to even try. The only thing keeping me from doing it right now is I have welsummer eggs and they are so hard to see. I candled them when they arrived (shipped eggs) but I couldn't see anything - so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

and pacing the floor - not so patiently waiting!

I have a question regarding candling - do you take all the eggs out at once (I have 12 and am using an egg carton to help me turn them) and candle them each very quickly? Or do you pull them in and out of the bator, opening and closing the bator lid, each time you candle an egg?
