WANTED: MILLE FLEUR COCHIN(S)

amazondoc.... i will be definitely checking back with you when the weather warms up in ealry spring. Are your bloodline and onthespot's roo related? I do not like to inbreed birds if at all possible because of the genetic defects that can occur. I have 9 trios of peafowl of various colors. I was told at the time of my purchasing them to always be sure to have completely unrelated bloodlines to lower the number of defects. I also have several pens of good quality mottleds and some buff pullets in with a partridge roo so adding the mille fleur color pattern to my flock would be a GREAT addition.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ONTHE SPOT AND AMAZONDOC

Those are both some good reputable breeders. I got my mottleds from BABYMAY on eggbid. I got a total of 18 eggs and hatched about 14 chicks. 2 were blue mottled, 1 white, and the rest were black mottleds. The crazy thing is that all are pullets except 4. They have great feathering and the big round puffy tails.

I'll trade you then. I have wanted to get some eggs from her but haven't gotten around to it. I would REALLY like some of the blue eggs. If you keep your birds together you can still mark what eggs they lay by dropping a few drops of food coloring in their vents and most of i will be pooped out, but supposedly it should tint the eggs enough to differentiate from the others....I have not tried this.

I will gladly trade out some eggs. My blue and black mottles will be coming upon 7 mos. The cockerels are stepping on the hens but no eggs yet. I am in the process of getting another blue mottled pair to put with the ones from babymay so that there are two distinct bloodlines with no crossing.

On the Spot,

How did the hatch go....I hope that it all went well for you.... be sure to post some pics as soon as they are ready for the camera...Look forward to seeing them....

The hatch is going on as we speak. Since they are early early pullet eggs, I waited and cherry picked the widest will rounded ones day by day. At first she had seventeen eggs under her. Maybe five of those appeared unfertile. One died in shell fully developed yesterday, one I culled due to splayed legs. Any other time I might work with a chick, but since the daddy was slightly splayed when he hatched, I'm not messing with any splayed chicks at all. Cull, end of story. There is too much close breeding right now with a recessive trait to chance doubling up on splayed legs.

Right now there are five hatched and peeping, sleeping, pecking and drinking, latest to hatch was this morning. There are I think five or four more eggs left. Three of them have 28 written ont them, which makes them due several days from now. One says 23, and I can't remember if there is another one or not. The one that hatched today was marked 22nd, the day it was collected and placeed under the broody. The first hatched is acting definitely roo-ish. He rushes to my hand when I put it in the brooder, jumps up on things to challenge me. He looks after the little baby siblings already. It is not my imagination. If one is sleeping he will check on it. He shows them where the food is, and is the first to taste the new water. when I change it. He will make a good roo I think. Good to see strong natural instincts so young.
