the meanest, most protective roo's I've ever had were little Banties. No size to them, but I've seen standard roos take a whipping from them. LOL

I have a RIR rooster who's a great protector - he's friendly to people, but he herds all of the hens to safety whenever he hears or sees anything threatening. Also, they get big and pretty, so that would be a good breed to get.

Roo city over here. Lets see what roos I have available. I have a splash BLRW, Blue cochins, Blue orps, EE's, maybe a welsummer and I do have some RIR that might be crosses. They are hatched from some eating eggs that they guy said were all RIR. But I will tell you there is a chick with dark legs in the batch. I plan to free range them once they are big enough. They are only 3 weeks old. But I can already spot a few cockerels. Let me know if you are interested in anything.

If you can get a couple of geese, they're a holy terror for interlopers in the yard, kids, dogs, you name it. Any intruder gets a nasty greeting from geese.

I strongly second the idea of geese. Not only that, they keep the inlaws from visiting too often!

I think I will stick with chickens, but thanks for the suggestions. I have decided on a RIR. Then I could breed him with my mix Deleware and maybe create a Red Comet green egg machine:P or I could just get a BR hen and go that route.

So whose got the RIRs?? I know you are out there. Thinking to yourself feed is expensive, I got too many roos, or :Pthis guy is mean and ornery with everything but people, I got to get him to Chad!!!!
