I'm watching Wife Swap, and there's a homeschool family. As the part of the "swapped" wife's rules, the kids had to go to public school.

One of the kids said "I like school, I get to be around other kids my age."

EXCUSE ME?! GREAT. Just what we need. Other people thinking that we're unsocialized, deprived kids! I'm homeschooled! I'm NOT socially inept. We have other homeschoolers on here who are perfectly normal kids.

There are these things called co-ops. They're usually once a week, three or four periods of extra-curricular activities, with other homeschooled children. Almost like being in school. Our homeschool group (the big one), has at LEAST one thing a week. At LEAST one field trip a month. And that's not the only group we have.

Those of you on here that know me, know I am not some strange, socially challenged, socially deprived child. And neither are the majority of homeschool families. Granted there are a few nutjobs out there that don't get ANY outside influences, what so ever (trust me, lived at one's house for a week in May...), but most of us are normal. There's just a difference in socialization, and socialism.

I'm tired of people arguing with me about how homeschooling is bad. I never get any solid facts! I get appeal to consequences, and argumentum ad populum. Fallacies and nothing more!

Okay. I think I'm done.

Feel better now?? LOL. I've had one of those days, too...

I think, just like there are pros and cons to public school, there are also pros and cons to private school and homeschooling.

I think the problem is that when you have those "nut jobs", they get all the publicity so it casts a bad light on the 99.5% of the normal people out there.

Don't let it get to you. As long as you are happy with your situation, that is all that truly matters. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Don't feel like you have to defend yourself.

hmm.. guess im a bad example for a homeschool kid. i have no outside contacts other then the internet. my friends are 1+ state away. or are animals... rotfl. but anyways. thats not because of homeschooling. i have a VERY controlling mother who never leaves the house. and i cant go anywhere without her. so.. im stuck here.

As a homeschooling mom, i agree. I hate those kinds of assumptions. My kids are very social!!

Thanks for your point of view. It really is nice to see it from the homeschooled student's perspective.

I don't like it when I hear bad things about homeschooling either. While I was a teenager (not to long ago) some of my friends were homeschooled and I was jealous. It seemed like they got to do more things interesting to them. I don't see what people have against home schooling...

and Dt chickens, where i'm from we had a county youth orchestra, maybe you could suggest something like that to your mom... no idea where your from or if your interested in playing a musical instrument but mine was really fun and I got to meet a lot of great people, some home schooled others public schooled, just a thought..

Kimmie,

When I worked at the school and the counselor called me in during the summer to set up the computer system because some homeschool kids were coming back to public school.

I set the computer system up and set the 4 kids on computers. After a while the kids broke down and was crying because they couldn't do the work. The counselor had me to run a report. The counselor said no wonder the kids were stressed out you had them set very high. I told her all the homeschool kids I knew were way ahead of public school kids I just assumed they were advanced and needed to placed in advanced class. She said ho these are the parents the state is making them put in public school because parents were nut jobs.

I was so shocked I thought all homeschool kids were so far advance because all the ones I know are. So there are more good parents than bad parents.

You are one rockin kid!!! You are NOT missing out on anything!!

Daniel -- trust me, I know a family with a mom like yours. I was PART of that family for a while...distancing myself from them...that woman scares me.

Thank you guys so much for the positive feedback.
