***Warning re: Ebay and PayPal ***

Ehh, I like buying from Ebay, but not selling. I just sold some eggs, and paypal is holding the money until the customer leaves good feedback..? All they would have to do is lie and say I didnt ship... I dont think I am going to sell on Ebay any more

I use to make fancy dog collars and sell on ebay. I stopped though and haven't sold anything on ebay in 2 years as a result. I'm glad I am hearing about this now. I still buy occasionally on ebay but I never renewed my paypal card when it arrived last time so it expired. I just got the new one and had to set-up the account stuff again since it was outdated. I do like using paypal for paying. It comes in handy and is quick. I don't plan to sell on ebay again anytime soon. It had gotten so pricy to sell through that it defeated the point back when I used it last.

I recently tried to set up a Paypal account. I wanted some eggs to ship to me the next day. So I gave Paypal my credit card info. Then I got a msg. that they would put a $2 charge on my credit card along with a numeric code. I could reteieve the code ON MY NEXT STATEMENT - the next month! - and finalize my account. I got angry and cancelled my account after Paypal customer service said there was no way I could have the account set up in a timely manner.
Thay still have my $$...

Oh....and the final kicker that I forgot to mention....after PayPal took my money, Ebay allowed the buyer to leave negative feedback about the purchase...and I was allowed to leave nothing but positive feedback. Of course, I just didn't leave any feedback.

I think these new changes will come back to bite Ebay in the a$$. Thousands of people are no longer selling with Ebay. Is there another alternative??

My husband says that this policy is in direct opposition to the UCC shipping codes.

Thank you for posting this information. I am getting ready to list a bunch of my DD's clothes to sell. I haven't sold anything since the beginning of summer since the policies have changed, so I greatly appreciate the info. about this.

I think we are gonna stick with eggbid for selling eggs and chicks via auctions if we do any.. this ebay is getting way out of hand,..

As someone else said..i see a huge group lawsuit coming for ebay...

hope they(ebay)don't buy out eggbid..

had somebody recently try to file claim from here (byc) on me, they stated the eggs were not fertile and then claimed them to not be what they were suppose to be, well they lost there case and sadly they will not get any free eggs from us now as we were gonna send them replacements to try again..but not now..they went ahead and just filed the claim, never ask for money back, but we did offer eggs before the claim to try again and they said yes to them.

no freebies now, there loss, as i think they were trying to scam us..they more than likely got a hatch or screwed up there incubation or the PO hammered them, then wanted there money to.

thanks paypal for doing the right thing in this case..

I found this thread very helpful. I was hoping some day to sell eggs on ebay but since I found this site, I think it will be easier to just sell here but if I do, I will remember to take money orders as well as paypal for those who no longer have an account.
Of course, there are other alternative auction sites. Overstock, bidville, ioffer, etc.

I've been a member of ebay and paypal since they began. The only problem I've ever had was my Paypal account was once hacked and they pulled over $500 out of our checking account that was linked to the account. Paypal corrected it and the bank refunded the overdraft fees, so in the end it was made right... but yes, a HUGE headache!

Now granted, I'm no power seller... I think I have about 200+ feedback and close to 300 transactions.... so I would imagine if you buy/sell a LOT then your risk goes up when you're talking about running into unscrupulous people. I think some of their new policies are bogus.... but I'm hoping they can fix their problems so I can continue to buy/sell with them.

What I didn't like when I sold this time is that they are telling you what you can charge for shipping and a lot of times, it didn't cover it.

First, I agree with most of you ~~ ebay & paypal are not what they used to be. For a real education in how ebay is working, go the the ANSWER CENTER: http://pages.ebay.com/community/answercenter/index.html

However
, INSURANCE protects the SELLER, always has. This is NOT new. There really is no such thing as 'as is' in Ebayland. If a buyer is not satisfied with the item (item not as described), they can return it for a refund. That really isn't new either. You can't 'write off' your responsibility to the post office. So insure any items you think are of value, and always get delivery confirmation. Just work it into your shipping costs. No options.

If you sell ANYTHING, it is your responsibility to get it to your buyer in the condition they purchased it in. If the UPS, FEDX, or USPS does anything to your item, it's NOT 'too bad for the buyer.' The buyer can't control how well you package an item, so if items are broken on arrival due to poor packaging, how can he be held liable? Just think how easy it would be for unscrupulous sellers to sell broken, damaged or empty boxes if that was possible!

If you have insurance, you still refund the buyer and all filing for claims is up to you. The applies to all carriers. USPS will pick up the damaged piece, assess whether they are at fault and process accordingly. USPS is more difficult to file claims through.

The new one-sided negative system is a joke. Unfortunately, ebay has managed to keep any other online auction sites from becoming competition. It's a great concept and many of us have become regular users, both buying and selling. I hope with all the new changes, another site more like the old ebay will come show up.
