Warning to Dog and Chicken Owners - NO Poop Eating Allowed!

When we had a dog we had to gate off the laundry room where the litter box was kept. The dog loved "kitty box crunchies"

She had a sensitive stomach, and anointed our floors more than once.

Sorry about the expensive vet trip, and I'm glad you puppy is feeling better. Poor doggy!

several yrs ago my miniture snauzer got into the wild bird seed bag and ate.. she was 11 at the time.. but it caused a blockage in her.. she was in so much pain and couldn't pass it so after three days of vet care they recommended instead of surgery at her age to putting her down since she was so old.. we did and it was awful to see her in so much pain.. so beware. dogs eat anything!!!!

Ranchhand, I am sooooo glad that your Lab is okay!! This thread made me crack up!! Not what I was expecting.... Our dogs have a variety to get into, but usually no shavings (thankfully). We seem to keep them distracted with horse poop (BRATS!!). The puking from garbage gut here just seems to be part of the routine

Thanks for the warning because I would never have thought of them becoming obstructed. I will make sure to stir my shaving into the compost pile when I discard them!!

Shavings clogged up my shop vac.....

Ack. What a situation. I am sure glad it turned out okay for your lab. I also appreciate the heads up because I never would have thought about something like that!

We have two that like to eat it and one who likes to roll in it. My plott hound???(not sure if that's really what he is) makes himself sick. But, he keeps out deck clean.

My moms and DD's puppys got into the litter box. DD told me about hers and I told her to give her a little olive oil. She pooped nothing but litter clumps all the next day. My moms dog, without the olive oil, was "clogged" for a bit before it finally passed.

thanks for the warning. We have a beagle and he's always eating the bunny poop. No wood chips there. We put all our coop litter in the compost bins. We did have to raise them. Found Snoopy in them one day having a banquet. He must have jumped three feet from a stand still. Olympics material if you ask me.

Fortunately my Lab enjoys his chicken poop free range in the yard. I'll remember to keep the coop human door shut though, so he can't get to the shavings!!

I keep the compost covered with welded wire to keep the chickens and the dogs out.

We are still finalizing the cat box doors, but for now they have a temporary blockade to the "Crumb Coated Tootsie Rolls". The final plan is a half door on hinges with a kitty size cutout.

And I have gotten paranoid about the wood shavings!

Thanks for all the well wishes for Bingo- he's pretty special- poor little guy showed up under the porch, 5 weeks old and almost dead. Now at 4.5years, he's a strapping 80 pound pain, but the world's best snoozing dog!

Here he is with his pal Tiger, also a notorious member of the "Can I Eat That?" Club.
