"Nightkit!" Nightpaw said proudly. "Like me!" She sniffed the tiny bundle of fur.

Firestar smiled and then licked both kittens and said..."Nightpaw? Get to bed now...OK?"

Nightpaw dipped her head. "Yes, Firestar," she meowed, obediently.

Seeing the hope on Nightpaws face vanish he quickly corrected himself. "Well...I guess you can sleep here if you don't mind Shadowfire? " Glancing at Shadowfire then at Nightpaw. Cinderpelt entered the cozy dim Nursery. "I will be getting to my own den now.. I will check on you later Shadowifre." Then the white speckled old cat padded quickly in the other direction. "Well.. I will go keep an eye on the other kits." Firestar meowed quietly . Finally giving shadowfire one last lick on her gray cheek,he too vanished into the darkness of the tunnel that lead to the other sections of the den.

Turning back around he corrected himself once more before he left. "I want you Nightpaw to keep an eye on Shadowfire!" Then completly vanished into the gloomy darkness.

The next morning Firestar stretched and counted the heads of the now juvenile kittens . "Good three" He mumbled before traipsing down to the nursery.

As Firestar entered the nurssery he collided with Nightpaw. "Hey! Daddy! Morning! Can I go play with the others now??" Firestar licked her cheek and let her pass. Alone at last with his mate and the kits.

Snowkit meowed and crawled over to the warmth of Shadowfires tummy. "Are you Hungry?" Yowled Firestar as he stod erect trying to look manly when he really wanted to cuddle with the soft babies.

Nightpaw purred inside as she saw her father trying to act tough. "Quiet! The kit's need quiet!" she meowed, suddenly her bossy medicine cat self.

Shadowfire did not have time to respond. Firestar took a minute of silence as yes and galloped down and out of the den. Once in the woods he began to pick up the scent of a field mouse. Spotting it a yard away Firestar pounced and landed artfully on the mouse.

"Victory!" He meowed through the mouthful.Firesstar darted back to the den.
