I'm so glad you get to have dark eggs too! I got a cuckoo marans today just so I'd get some more dark eggs. I love those chocolate eggs!

No, I put them under the mom in the mid-afternoon. she took right to them. and them to her. I checked on them every few hours . But every mom can be different I guessAnd you put them there at night and just left them? How were they in the morning? I'm totally freaking out that Lucy is going to kill them if left unsupervised. I also have to figure out a tiny temporary feeder and waterer for the nest box before Lucy shows them where the food and water are outside the box, on the coop floor. Oi! This is work.

Ohh, so jealousSo, we made a trip to Erhard Weigh's (Kummer's Poultry) place today and checked out his birds. He's got gorgeous Silver Leghorns, Welsummers, Barnevelder's and Russian Orloff's. Here's some of his silvers:Wow, his Russian Orloff's are gorgeous- the speckled/spangled ones are just awesome- and super docile! :yiipchick I really, really wanted some of those! We picked up a dozen hatching eggs- a few of each. I had no idea that he would be willing to part with the Russian Orloff eggs, but he offered, and I couldn't resist those! So, instead of speckled sussex, I've got RO's. That works for me- bearded ladies are IN, yes? We are really exicted to get the eggs in the incubator, but we're waiting for one more of my americauna eggs from tomorrow's lay to get the eggs started. So, will be trying to hatch (from left to right) 3 Barnevelders, 4 Welsummers, 4 silver-laced, 3 Russians, and will add 2 of my own americauna- 16 in all. If my buff Orp was broody, I'd give her 1/2 of them to be sure of a good hatch rate, but no such luck yet!
Erhard was nice enough to give us a tour, He's sure got lots of chickens! (and a big incubator!). He mentioned he was going to a big chicken show in California this next week. We're kicking back after a nice salmon dinner, enjoying a glass of organic Cabernet. Might be a hot tub and sauna night? Ahhhhhh...
.... But I am going to have to wait and get pullets old enough to be outside.... I want one of each.... And am already trying to calculate how to enlarge my coop w/out adding any more legs ;-) lol..... This is it before paint...

Me too! Cadbury cream eggs are my all time favorite candy. And Candy corn.

Quote: Hey ladies, this is how it's done! (haha, says the one with no chickens yet! But I have to say, it has been added to my weightloss goals!)
Oh! So cute! I'm super happy you couldn't resist the call for baby chickies! I love the pictures!! I can imagine it's hard work getting outta shell, I would have to sleep it off awhile too!!My chicks are sleeping a TON. That's normal right? I mean...they're only 3 days old. They have all eaten and drank on their own, so they know where that stuff is. ACV in their water and they're eating Purina Start & Grow Medicated, and nobody's pasty. Just a rough day changing homes I'm guessing?
OMGosh, I just diedDon't worry, they're not dead. Aren't they hilarious?!![]()
Must be the way they remind me of how I love to sunbathe! Just lay me out, bring me a margarita, we good.

Yes, but only the original kind, none of those new brands like Starburst, or Jelly Bellies with their creepy flavors and textures.
