First time on today and I killed the thread. Sorry.

I put one chick under Lucy aalready. Actually, I set it right in front of her face next to another one of her chicks and she did nothing at all. Didn't even look at it funny. It was confused why it was outside and cold though, so after about a minute I put it under her. Hope it's OK out there!

Is it best to get starts or will seeds take ok?

When I want more I just cut off a shoot and root it. When I moved into my house 10 years ago there was one small vine and now there are three huge ones :) I've never tried seeds. Where do you live? I could root some and try mailing it to you.

Sara,
Root them in water? or starter mix? Use rooting hormone?
I'm just planning on a few in water; some outside some inside. But I have all here if needed.

Russ
I just stuck mine in the ground and they took off. I bundled maybe 10 stems together and put them all in the ground together and tied them to the fence. I'm sure they all didn't survive but some did and it's now a huge vine.

Well we're home and the chicks are set up in a brooder overnight. They don't seem very stable

I hope I don't lose any. Cleaned up one's pasty butt and got her dry but she is wobbley on her feet and won't stop chirping like there is something wrong. I hope she lives, I really wanted another RIR
I hope they make it!

We had a good time today! I'm so tired for some reason.

I got four big boxes of irises for free today after you dropped me off. I'm not sure I want to plant them, they are Yellow flag irises. Does anyone know anything about them? They are apparently invasive and listed as a noxious weed in wet areas. I plan to plant them in the strip along my driveway, so they wouldn't have anywhere to spread to, and it's rather dry, so maybe they would be OK?

They grow in and near water and like wet feet. I pulled out some last year, but the ones out in the deeper spot never dried enough for me to get to. I didn't know what they were the year before since they didn't flower, or I could have got them then. If it's dry this year, I'll be digging them out. I've been trying to get rid of them before they spread.

So are you saying that I shouldn't plant them? Or will they be contained in a dry spot away from any other plants?

Looking for Heritage seeds, etc? Go to www.DavesGarden.com - you don't have to be registered to check out their"Garden Watchdog." On the home page click on "products and services."
Then click on "Garden Watchdog."Scroll dog to nearly the bottom.

If you know the name of the company you can check it to see comments from buyers. If you are just checking for sources, you can pick the grouping that lists seeds and what type. It can be refined by picking geographical location, etc. etc.

Oddly enough they also list hatcheries, and comments from happy or disgruntled customers. I alsways check out the hatcheries when I visit the site.

In other news.... I found a house that I really REALLY want. It is only on 6 acres, but I think I can make it work. The house was built in 1902 and has the most Quorkey lay out. Oh how I want this one, so we are going to look at it on Sunday. I was kinda hoping to move more south, like Enumclaw (sp?) and this one is in Lake Stevens/Granite Falls but that is just fine because the house and everything on the property are perfect. I wont get my hopes up on this one though, as I have lost every house that I have wanted.
South of Chehalis is an even better place to live ! ! !
