Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Willow is home this morning. At about 7:15 I went outside and called for her. Took a minute, and lots of searching, then suddenly she flew out of a bordering tree into the neighbor's yard. This chicken is WILD, mind you, but she didn't make me chase her much to catch her. I finally snagged a few tail feathers and she went still...it was almost a squat. I'm so happy she's back! Now today I'll be changing the locks on the coop and run. Something bigger, different, and lockable.

so - what causes a chicken to slowly go blind? Cataracts? I think I can see a cloudyness (is that a word?) She appears to be totally blind in one eye, and has limited vision if any in the other. There was no trauma. No access to weird food. Only bird affected. Seems to be otherwise healthy. She is just about a year old. Maybe 16 mo.

Weird.

Instead of mattresses maybe we would be better off sleeping on a prison bed, I don't think they have mattresses at all.
Nope, prisons have to provide mattresses in the US because it is "cruel and unusual" punishment not to.

Yay, I figured she treed herself. But yeah, sounds like a securing system is needed. I have a hasp lock with a caribeener on it. And the coop in use now is dog run fencing, so it has a good lockable latch. I have a slide bolt on the pallet coop that is padlockable.

Has the iris changed color? If it does it is likely Marek's(ocular version). Although it usually manifests in older birds(3-4yo)

I hadn't thought about that Travis .. hmm. It is a hatchery bird that should have been vaccinated.

That trailer coop -- the DW has some rules about how the property should look - a lame-o travel trailer parked out back is not her idea of 'nice'. Now, if I had more room, I could plant some stuff that would quickly over grown and hide it.

I am not taking sides on the ADD/ADHD debate. This is an account of my son's story.

He was diagnosed with ADD at 15(which is late). The Dr offered to put him on meds, but we were against it. He suggested giving him a cup of coffee every morning. We got the iced coffee mixes and tried those. His focus improved off the charts. Started to do better with grades. Between the caffine and his running he is doing great. My wife also has adult ADD and she does not medicate for it. She just goes a million miles a minute and changes mental gears without using the "clutch". Squirrels are quite common in our household(not the fury kind).

For some, yes meds are the only way. For others there are alternatives. Finding out what works best for your situation is what is key.
This is the KEY TO SO MUCH OF LIFE ! ! ! What is right or works for me may not be for others and vice a versa !!!

Hey there fellow peeps,

Someone suggested I post my "need" online. I've got a shed I need to get moved tomorrow . It's 8 foot wide, so it's not going to fit on many trailers because most are 7 1/2 foot wide.

I can rent a bigger truck and a trailer, but I'd rather pay a person than a corporation. We've got a plan, we just don't have the equiptment.

Does anyone have a low trailer that an 8 foot shed could fit on, and do they want to help out? I'd make it worth your while, I am sure

I gotta move the shed tomorrow.

If so, PM me!

I really wish I could help ya with this. I just have a couple things stopping me. Like one truck is broke down and the other truck???? Well last night as I was out in the rain trying to process scrap to haul today. The plasma cutter decided to fail. I worked on it until 2 :00 am. My clothes were so rain soaked I could barely stand up. So now I have a truck committed to work today and the skeleton of a trailer hung up on it. I really hope ya get that shed and get it moved.
