Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Carolyn!!! Those chicks are stinkin adorable!! Yay!! I need to break out my laptop and do some happy dances for you!!
Thanks! I was on the ipad when I posted that, and it's a bugger for adding any "frills". I'm getting one more today, a sex link.

I need to check with my GF, but I'd love to take the Domique if she isn't too big a chick.
Well.... we know she doesn't have pasty butt!

I finally got my incubator temp to stabilize at 99 degrees. Should it be 100 instead? I'm having a hard time remembering. And to decrease humidity, just remove some water, right? And what is a good humidity percentage for the first 18 days?

Ahhhhh I'm so excited! My eggs arrive on Monday/Tuesday!!

Good Luck -- Have Fun -- Enjoy!

Sorry I can't keep up here.

Welcome to all the new peeps!

I have a small "surprise" hatch.... I put 27 eggs in on the 10th of Feb, pulled 20 due to being not fertile, The 7 I left in the bator I could not see in due to being thick and darker brown. Well today 4 hatched and another is pipped so I have 4-5 chicks that are Olive eggers.

Anyone interested? I don't have room atm and would like to sell them as soon as possible.
Papa is a Blue Ameraucana and mama is either of my brown egg layers. Jersey Giant x Black sexlink mix or her daughter by My last rooster a Buff Orpington.
They lay nice dark brown eggs and are good layers. Mixed with the Blue the girls should produce a nice Olive/green colored egg.

PM me if interested. and if you do not get a reply PM again please.... I don't always get a email notice when I should.

Hope everyone is doing well and ready for spring!

ps 5th just hatched! now 6 and 7 I dunno but I think I hear peeps from one of them..... We will see in the morning! (when I wake up morning)

Ooops on the 20, but Yippee on the rest!!! Congrats!

Lovely Blue "just started to lay" pullet needs a home.

I really like this girl, but she can fly, and she does. Every day. She needs a home with a covered run (or some other containment). So far, we have found her eggs (I think most of them) and she's doing 4-5 a week. I really don't want to clip her wings . . .sooo. . . !

Outside the fence

Still outside

This is her sister - so she has some Ameraucana in her; but all my blues lay cream/beige/pinkish eggs.

I also have a lovely pair of Welsh Harlequin ducks from Dave Holderread that are looking for a home.

So my DD Mikayla and I after a busy morning had the privilege to visit Cowgirlgrace what a cool lady! We went to pick up a couple Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks and ended up talking about incubating eggs which helps for Mikayla's science fair project and we talked some gardening. We didn't go down to the big tunnel but man that thing is BIG!
Cowgirlgrace put all the chicks in a box to make it easier for Mikayla to pick them out, I tell her just a few. Oh are those BLR Wyandotte Chic's? Cool! Maybe a couple of those too! I look in Mikayla's box and I couldn't see the bottom! Dad you said a few that's a few. After explaining few is three and your mom will kill me if we bring home more than a FEW! She says dad they're so cute though, mommy won't mind. We ended up with 4 of each and hatching eggs! 6 Lavender Orpington eggs and 6 Cochin eggs of some sort. I guess I'll need to figure out the name of the Cochin, she told me but I was on a chick binge so my focus was a little off! The Roo had very cool colors so we had to get eggs. What the heck right? Thanks Kayla!!!
We got the chicks home and I swear our dog Tucker was shaking his head and mumbling Dude you're on your own I ain't got no room in my house for you tonight! Gee Thanks Pal!!

robj.... sorry we missed you! I hope the rain stopped by the time you got there. Dang is was nasty for a while. It's a good thing Lyn put those chicks in a box or DH would have had to climb in with them to pick out her chicks. It was tough for me to reach those little critters! DH just laughed at me! Ours got named Honey #1, Honey #2, and Honey #3! It's a long story, but it works for me until they're grown. I only get to keep one, and her name is pre-ordained.

You better start building a plush new house for Tucker if you keep buying chicks!!!

well, we had to open the inCOOLbator because chicks kept falling off the mesh tray to the bottom of the cooler we made in to this inCOOLbator, and because the humidity had gone way down last night and we had a chick stuck in the shell. We quickly opened it, transferred the hatched chicks to the brooder, and misted/sprayed the incubartor. I tried to lift the shell off one of the chicks- and he was stuck to his shell, so I sprayed that one- that had top and bottom shells stuck to it. Within a couple minutes, he was able to finally free himself.

We've got 7 more eggs that need hatched, and can clearly see 3 of them are pipped- so might have some more soon- unless we got too much humidity when we sprayed- hoping not!

One of our hatched babies had a crooked foot, so we made him a nice little fashionable sandal- here's pics of that!

here's our beach bum in his sandal at the chick beach

sorry the colors are so awful- pics under red lights aren't very edit-able (is that a word?)
