Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Oh I love all the Corgis! So cute!

When I saw the mention of turkeys it reminded me of when I went outside early in the morning & the chickens were all hanging out with a wild turkey! I was afraid they would follow him into the woods!

Thanks again for the car lien advice folks! We went to my bank & did a wire transfer & had a release of title faxed to the lien holder (per lien holder's instructions) then we went to the DOL & did a bill of sale/title transfer ..we should be all good! The bank will be mailing the title directly to us soon! And the new (to us) Outback is sitting in the driveway now! It's purdy.

What wonderful heirlooms you are making for your daughter and her future family.

OK, I am putting blinders on. That is such a cute one.

I thought I would step in here and say ALL of you are a bad influence.

I usually just quietly lurk and try to keep up on the happenings in the chicken world but lately whats up with all these chick pictures? I am truly suffering here. I now want chicks SO BAD. Rainwolf and her mom actually started this by giving me a dozen hatching eggs when all I wanted was one of her cockerels... Those chicks were so cute! I need more chickens like I need another hole in my head. DH thinks I'm totally chicken crazy (ok..maybe that is true). I told him yesterday I *REALLY* want to start breeding LF silver Ameraucanas (thanks to Hinotori showing me her pullet :love ) and I was showing him all the pictures of them and sharing the new chick pictures everyone has and he just looked at me and said "I don't know, I thought when I agreed to getting chickens you said only 10. Now what are we at? 20 birds? 3 of them being full grown TURKEYS!?"

I feel like a bad addict. Now I'm brainstorming how to smuggle more birds in and pull off breeding AMs. I ran across someones sig. the other day can't remember whos but it said "Chickens smickens... they are just the gateway bird" DH didn't think that was funny but I think I will just stick with turkeys and chickens, but elaborate on the chickens.

Alright, I'm going back to lurking and admiring everyones chick pictures and wishing I had some to share.

WOW, that exact same phrase has come out of my own DH mouth!!!!
Question: How much do you separate your turkeys from the chickens? Most articles say to keep them apart due to turkeys getting blackhead, but I've seen several say they have never had problems with it and keep them in the same area.

I thought the same thing when I was given my first turkey but I read on the turkey thread that a lot of people keep them together. The lady I bought my other 2 turkeys from said the only 2 cases she saw of blackhead was in poor living conditions. The other suggested precautions were to keep everyone wormed and good ol' acv in their water. Cleanliness I think is key. I free range them on 5 acers and the coop is kept clean where their food is. Thats funny about the quote. I bet its a pretty common occurence. They have to say that to curb our addiction!

Hi everyone... I thought I should let everyone know this. A couple weekends ago I went to a small 4-H poultry show. I was looking for birds to show this spring, and found a good trio of Wyandottes to start out with for $65. They all seemed fine and healthy at the show, and the person I purchased them from seemed kind and honest. I took them home and put them in their new coop under quartine away from my other birds. Well... On that Sunday I noticed one of the hens was acting off. She was just laying in the corner, eyes closed, but I thought she was just stressed from the move. The next few days her condition got worse and worse. Comb/wattles got paler, and all she did was sleep, eat a little here and there, and drink a few smalls sips of water. I separated her from the others. The others are totally fine, just her. I concluded this weekend that that person sold me a sick bird. She's hanging in there, but I don't think she's going to make it... But what really sickens me is this person sold me a sick bird. I noticed that when I brought her home that day, when she breathed if I was holding her, it rattled... But didn't think nothing of it. My purpose of this post is to inform you of this person. If you want their name, PM me, I'm not going to post it here. I still can't believe someone would do that, especially in OR/WA. Thank you.
Since they all seemed fine at the show, they may really have been fine. And if it really was sick and wasn't showing symptoms at the show, you really can't blame the person who sold it to you if neither of you saw any symptoms. Don't judge too quickly.

Not trying to spread rumors or be judgemental. But I actually talked to one of my good friends' this weekend (I actually brought the cockerel to show them) and they told me not to associate with this person because they weren't honest. That's what led me to believe that this person sold me a sick bird.
