Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Ok, so we finally slaughtered the pigs today! Man the guys that came to do it were fast, 20 minutes. They got here, killed the pigs skinned them and then hung them in their truck and off they went. That brings me to my question.... I kept the feet for my dogs, but they are picky (never had raw food) so how do I need to cook these so they can eat them?

You really shouldn't feed cooked bones to dogs, the bones can splinter MORE when they are cooked. With my dog, she didn't have raw before we got her and was picky, but we found that if we froze them she was fine.

Nice that she integrated so easily! TC, you have some wonderful theater right there in Olympia. One of my favorites is the beautiful Harlequin Theater located in the middle of downtown Olympia. It's gorgeous and they put on some VERY high quality work. It's extremely tough as an actor to break into that theater. I have a small hope that by performing in this high profile show for TAO (Theater Artists Olympia) who are known for doing riskier edgier shows that I might be invited to audition at the Harlequin someday.

Capital Playhouse does some fun works. Lots of musicals. I think I saw "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" there.

But YOU TC, I had no idea of your history with BAT - you are a desired commodity in theater! They are always clamoring to find someone willing to work on costuming! If you ever thought you might be able to let them have some more of your time, I would be MORE than happy to introduce you to some folks in Olympia theater. They'll want to be your new besties!
I am aware you have a surgery coming up soon and will be out of commission. I hope you heal well and thoroughly. But after that... the theater could be calling your name!

PS - not sure what your surgery date is and how long you're expected to rest, but if you're well enough you should think about meeting up with the ladies from the North and I for dinner in Olympia on Sunday, April 21st. They'll be attending my 2:30 show and we'll be going someplace downtown just after 4 PM.

you are right, but some dogs transition to raw easier if it's cleaned meat/bone then get the water to boiling and drop it in for a minute. Just enough to cook the outer layer of meat not enough to cook bones.

Sounds like everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather yesterday and even learn a new way to boil FRESH eggs. btw, I sent that to another chicken friend... she tried it and said it worked perfectly for her, too.

I was able to clean the freebie dog house and it really looks great. There were a couple of broken pieces of siding near the top that will be great vents as soon as I put hardware cloth over them. Now I just need a perch inside and a door. Easy Peasy since DH is such a great "get 'er done" kinda fella!

Also prepped a couple of planting bed and got seeds in for spinach, kale, and rainbow chard. I haven't planted chard before and don't know if I'll like it, but I'm sure the chickens will! A lot of the greens I grow are mostly for the chickens... my BFF thinks I'm a little nuts even though she has more chickens than I do.

We had a little bit of a boo boo with the chicks Friday night. I was in the other room, talking to Ciscoe Morris on tv, and DH found a chick dangling by her foot from the chicken wire lid on the brooder! Yikes! By the time I got back in the room he'd rescued her and gotten different wire (1/2" hardware cloth) to make a new lid. She's totally ok, not even a scratch, but DH almost had a heart attack! It will be time to move them to the dog kennel in the garage pretty soon. But I really like having them in the laundry room. I love hearing them in there all day!!! It will be way too quiet when they're out in the garage.

Yesterday afternoon I took a couple of them outdoors to play in the dirt for a few minutes, in a nice warm protected corner. One kept trying to eat rocks the size of a large pea! Silly girl? I was worried they would get cold so it was a short outing, only about 5 minutes!

Well, I'd better get going, I'm feeling very lazy today. I think it's the time change. I like longer days but hate the lost hour.
Have a great day everybody!

Hello, all! The snake talk is creeping me out! I'm from the Mojave Desert, and I was raised to stay away from snakes, as pretty much everything in the desert has venom, stickers, or both. Our yard has a bumper crop of harmless ribbon snakes, and even though I know they're perfectly safe, I cringe when the kids handle them! Early training trumps logic. My big news is WE GOT A DOG! I'm a dog person to the core, but we haven't had one for years. We opted for a cardigan welsh corgi (the corgi WITH a tail...) She's a year old, so we bypassed some of the more irritating puppy behaviors. She was sold as a pup to a breeder as a show prospect, but she didn't quite grow out to show quality. Fine by me! I want a buddy, an obedience dog, and maybe later agility, so a couple minor cosmetic faults make no difference. This is my girl, Maddie! She has herding bloodlines, and it's come out in her in spades. She herds cats, children, and chickens with no intent to harm any of them. (NOT that we let her out with the chickens unattended...) Nice to be back in the chicken forum! --Nikki
Beautiful pup! I've spent moe than a few days running around that desert.

Anything going on in the North Washington Area? There's some kind of show next month in Lynden I believe

I you're looking at stuff NORTH you might check with the folks in the Omak/Okanogan area. It seems like they had a few swaps and such last year. I believe one of them was hoping to be at the Monroe show on Saturday.

wecome! What a sweet looking cardi. We have two Pems, but they are evidently far from their working roots, utterly uninterested in the chickens. The belgian/german working line GSD is another story... Killed a few early on due to an owner (me) screwup, but he's a good guardian now.
