Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Yeah... the great side of being the grandparent is you get to hand them off for long periods of time, not just a few minutes here and there while someone else holds the baby. You couldn't pay me enough to have/adopt/raise a baby at my age.

None the less.if she needed me, I would be there in a heartbeat, and I would raise my grand babies.
Better than a puppy that would RUN and I am crippled enough not to keep up!!!!

We all do what we are called upon to do.

We use gluten free bread. My 2 favorite GF breads are Rudi's in the blue wrapper (corn free), and Whole Foods brand "Light White sandwich bread". (corn free).

If you are avoiding carbs/starch, you can use the Julian's "paleo" bread, made from either almond meal or coconut flour, but I think it tastes nasty and it's $9 for this little loaf that is about the side of a brick. They make it with egg whites- no yolks, so it's pretty flavorless and more like cardboard, IMHO. Maybe if it was soaked in butter, fried with melted cheese and bacon inside it would taste good? (or not?)

Tonight we had taco salad for dinner. We used a scant few "Beanito" chips (rice/bean) crunched up on bottom, then chopped cabbage (adds more crunch, plus it's alkalizing), spinach (instead of iceberg, which has no nutritional value), grassfed burger with pinto beans for the meat, Daiya cheese, and all the usual stuff- olives, tomatoes, green onions, fresh cilantro, salsa. Since we're dairy free, we use Karam's garlic sauce instead of ranch or sour cream. I make it homemade some days - (AKA Lebanese garlic Sauce). Best taco Salad ever- really!
I'm really trying to stay wheat free, more than just gluten free. I feel better and have more energy with there is no wheat in my diet. Not to mention I eat less food.

Have you tried making GF or WF bread in a bread machine? I have several bread machine books but they all use wheat flowers.

Not sure....I am very careful cuz every exposure to wheat is more & more violent to the point where I am incapacitated & struggle to even breathe.......so I have diphrenhydramine & an epi pen~~~~~~~~~~~~but this is a more subtle exposure that is going on...

yep, I hear ya on that.

Are you getting exposure from the chicken feed? My son used to get seizures from wheat. Just being in the same room where wheat was being used to cook or bake with.

Do you wear protection when you are dishing out animal feed?

Absolutely. If I had to, I would take on a grandbaby to raise. Just hope that won't be necessary. My DSD's are only 13 and 15, so I hope (with much coaching from me) they will wait for children until they are much older.

Gluten is wheat, plus rye, barley, & spelt. (and oats, because they are cross-contaminated)

We are all of those completely free, plus soy and corn. Even my pets are gluten, soy, and corn free (well, chickens get corn, but not cats/dogs)

There's GF bread mixes you can buy, that you just put on the "gluten free" setting on your bread maker. If your bread maker doesn't have an obvious gluten free setting, google the nameof yur breadmaker, plus model plus the words gluten free setting and you will likely find what you are looking for online. For the best recipes, check out autism groups. Lots of moms who are required to cook due to their kids severe allergies have taken the bull by the horns and developed amazing recipes.

FYI: Stumpfarmer has EXCELLENT grass fed beef....buy a pound or a half beef....excellent and their prices are awesome as well, she is in Olympia area.

Here's a preview for you....

Honey got a mani-pedi today!

hummm...I think blondes look better in RED

So, the chicken relocation went smoothly today....had the girls in a x-pen with plywood on top, with food, water and nest boxes inside..... I have to say, they were NOT happy with me, lol. They were in there from 7:30 till 2pm and I got one egg laid in the dirt.....

When the pen was finally finished to the point where we could put them in, I moved the 5 of them in. Now this, they were visibly relieved to see, especially the nest boxes in THIER coop, lol

Then I left at 2:30 for a softball game(I umpire) and came back to this.....

And this....

They REALLY like having all the dirt to play in... I am just waiting for Friday to pick up some more pine shavings.... Thought about sand, but it is too expensive as a truck can't get to the spot so we would be wheel barrow it in anyway.... Oh we'll.... Maybe another time....

I guess I hadn't thought of the others you listed as having gluten. I would love to use my books, but have no clue on ways to convert from wheat flour to another type and get "similar" (NOT SAME) results. Any suggestions? I want to get a bread machine again, just haven't because I didn't know if they could be converted to GF breads.
