I'm so sorry. I don't know any way to help with the kids coping. I can offer virtual hugs, though.

I explained to them what was going on and better to put her down then to have her lungs fill and to end her suffering. she seems so sad. just crying and whimpering. i cant really describe it but just heartbreaking how she was. def sucks a lot. my youngest cried for an hour over her last night. cried more today. now it is just a waiting game to see if any more fall ill.

Welcome to our group. I'm so sorry to hear about the sick girl and sad children. Some things just don't seem to work out right for us sometimes! I'll keep my fingers crossed for the rest of your flock.

If you're looking for others I'm sure we can find some healthy layers. This Washington group is pretty extensive even though not all have been posting lately, and we have others in our "network" too. I saw someone posting a hen with newly hatched chicks, the hatch wasn't even finished yet. They are Black Copper Marans. If you're interested I can get contact info.

Hi All,
Just FYI... On July 2, DD well be performing in Olympia at the Capital Theatre as part of the Wanderlust Circus. (Kate... she might even be wearing THE costume. lol) This type of circus isn't like Ringling Bros. but rather the European sort with acrobats, aerialists, jugglers, vaudeville performers, etc. She is half of the acrobatic teamed known as Duo Rendez-vous. It should be fun and different. I hope our schedule allows ME a chance to go!

Worked myself to a standstill on the hatching cage; having a little nosh and then going out to finish itbefore my daughter comes over at 6pm to help move the chickenand set the cage down correctly. Had visitors watching me work yesterday, which slowed me down being as how I couldn't swear properly.
