I absolutely agree, and am always pulling out mint. I ran across this awesome idea on pinterest to keep things like mint from spreading... Sunken pots!

How beautiful !!! do have a question…Am sure the pots have holes in the bottom to facilitate drainage….so as the plants become mature over the years they could escape that way but keeping them in these pots are a genius measure…..wouldn't do it for comfrey though….

If I were to do this, I would probably cut out the bottom completely and line it with weed block.
On second thought, for mint, I would use 2 layers of weed block, hahaha.

Ok.... I need it to rain a bit less tomorrow. My front yard is only partially done and I feel like I live in Beirut. I need a "Not a bomb testing site, honest" sign!

And this is how I decided to deal with the unruly herbs! Cost me less than $5 for the blocks at Habitat restore and the gazing ball is a large light fixture globe over dollar store solar lights! Lol

This looks amazing! I may steal some of your ideas here!

Weed block won't work for peppermint. It grew through two layers of the nice thick stuff from Costco in every pot Mom's had it in. She lines all pots to try and keep the moisture in over on the dry side. It does slow it as most will circle but plenty of growing ends just poke through.

I just planted the stuff by the back door well away from where I'm ever planting anything else in the ground. Great Grandpa had his under the back faucet because it tolerates some wear and tear and keeps mud down. Constant mowing kept it mostly from the lawn and the plants next to it in the bed were just as vigorous so they kept it in check from the sides.

OOOHHHH SO JEALOUS , my gotta do list hasn't allowed me to get very far in the garden yet….Love the heat tape thought….next week says a bit colder….My peppermint is in a huge clump in a sunny but wet (not soggy) area most of the year…..have a different type same kind of area but half sunny, grows like a weed……Comfrey grows anywhere, even in ditches near water…BEST in a confined container…..roots go DEEP and SPREADING. Even a fingernail size piece of root can grow…..i will be attempting to eliminate it from my garden forever. So i guess i'm saying, don't plant it where you may not want it in the future….

I have a half wine barrel, that should do well !

That is a great idea !
Being sunken would also help protect the roots from freezing.
I wonder if the comfrey would root through the holes in the bottom of the pot, though ?
